LG Repair in Houses, Townhomes and Condos

LG appliances tell you a lot through their displays, but a code is a symptom, not a verdict, and we treat it that way. We are not part of LG's authorized service network. An LG still inside its warranty belongs with LG first, and before paying for a compressor or washer motor, ask LG whether that particular part carries longer coverage than the rest of the appliance, because on many models it has. For everything else, a technician comes to your home, tests the part the code points at, shows you what broke and prices the fix, which you approve or decline.

Condos & high-rises
Many buildings want a loading-dock slot, an elevator booking or a sign-in at the desk. Mention those rules at booking so the visit fits them.
Stacked laundry
Washer-dryer stacks in closets and hall nooks often have to come out of the space to be worked on. Measurements or a photo help us prepare.
Older houses
A new appliance in a house built decades ago can be let down by the outlet, gas line, drain or vent behind it. We test the supply as well as the machine.
Tenants & owners
A renter can book the visit. We report the fault and the quote to the owner or property manager, whose approval comes before any repair.
Humid summers & garages
Sticky summer air makes fridges sweat and front-loader gaskets smell, and a garage fridge can struggle in the heat. Some of that is upkeep, not a failed part.
A straight answer
If fixing an older unit makes little sense, you will hear that from us, along with which part gave out.

How a Repair Visit Works

01

Book the Visit

Call or use the form. Name the make and describe the fault; a model number, if handy, speeds up parts.

02

Find the Fault

At your place, the technician checks the appliance and whatever feeds it (power, water, drain, gas or venting) until the cause is clear.

03

Approve the Price

You get a plain explanation and a price for the repair. The work starts only if you say yes.

04

Fix and Check

The new part is fitted and the appliance is run through a cycle, so you can see it working.

LG

The company and its two signature motors

LG Electronics has its headquarters in Seoul. Since 2018 it has built front-load and top-load washers and dryers for the American market at a large plant in Clarksville, Tennessee. Its luxury kitchen line, Signature Kitchen Suite, comes from the same company.

Two pieces of in-house engineering define most LG repairs. Washers use a direct-drive motor bolted to the back of the tub, with no belt. Refrigerators use inverter compressors, and many use LG's linear compressor, which drives a piston back and forth magnetically. Both changed what fails and how it gets tested.

Where LG turns up in our area

The WashTower and stacked LG pairs are a practical fit for condos along Wisconsin Avenue and in downtown Silver Spring, where the laundry is a closet off the hall. Townhouse owners and landlords with rentals near the University of Maryland often choose LG for the same reasons: size, price and features.

In kitchens, LG French-door and InstaView refrigerators and matching slide-in ranges show up whenever a whole suite gets replaced at once, whether that's a rambler in Wheaton getting its first update or a newer home in Bethesda.

Codes help, testing decides

LG uses short codes across its line. On a washer, OE means it couldn't drain, IE that it couldn't fill, dE that the door didn't lock, UE that the load is out of balance. Flow Sense dryers warn about a restricted vent. Refrigerators report fan and defrost problems as Er codes. Smart Diagnosis, run through LG's ThinQ app or on some older units by an audible tone, passes the stored history along to LG.

Those tools narrow the search. They don't replace a meter. An OE on the display might be a baby sock caught at the pump inlet, or it might be a dead pump. Only the second needs a part.

Parts, and the coverage question

LG shares much of its laundry hardware across whole model families, so pumps, door locks, valves and dryer rollers are usually easy to get. Ice maker assemblies, compressor inverter boards and door trim are specific to fewer models and sometimes slow.

LG has offered extended parts coverage on some inverter compressors and direct-drive motors. Terms differ by model and when it was bought; confirm them with LG before paying for either part out of pocket.

LG, product by product

  • Refrigerators: French-door, InstaView, door-in-door, side-by-side and bottom-freezer models with inverter or linear compressors. Frosted ice compartments, fan and defrost faults and cooling complaints lead the list.
  • Washers: Direct-drive front-loaders, WashTower units and top-loaders. Clogged pump filters, door locks, rotor position sensors, fill valves and tub bearings are the usual work.
  • Dryers: Gas and electric models, the WashTower's upper half and LG's heat pump dryers. Vent restriction warnings, blown thermal fuses, heaters, thermistors, gas valve coils and rollers come up most.
  • Dishwashers: QuadWash and standard built-ins driven by a direct-drive wash motor. Leak sensor trips, drain and fill faults, heater circuits and scaled spray arms account for most calls.
  • Ovens: LG wall ovens and the oven cavity of LG ranges, many with ProBake and EasyClean. The sensor, heating elements, the fan-mounted convection element and the lock motor top the repair list.
  • Microwaves: Over-the-range and countertop microwaves, many with inverter power and some with convection. No heat, blown fuses from door switches, vent fans and touchpads are frequent.
  • Freezers: Freezer drawers and compartments in LG refrigerators, plus some standalone freezers. Iced evaporators, stalled fans, defrost faults, frozen drains and drawer seals are typical.
  • Cooktops: Induction, radiant glass and gas cooktops. Induction power boards and cooling, element and switch faults, spark ignition and cracked glass are the regular repairs.
  • Stoves: Basic freestanding gas and electric LG stoves, common in rentals. Weak oven igniters, clicking burners, bake elements, infinite switches and oven sensors fail most.
  • Ranges: Slide-in, front-control and freestanding ranges, including InstaView, air fry and dual-fuel models. Touch panels, control boards, convection parts, igniters and sensors are common.

Getting LG parts

LG parts come through LG's own parts site and a network of distributors. Because pumps, door locks, valves and rollers are shared across many laundry models, they are rarely hard to find. Ice makers, inverter boards and the cosmetic pieces on refrigerator doors are tied to narrower model ranges, so waits are longer. Every order goes in under the complete model number, and we tell you when LG has superseded a part with a revised version or when we are using an equivalent, and remind you to check LG's extended coverage before paying for a compressor or motor.

FAQ

LG Repair Questions

The questions that come up most often. Anything not covered here, ask us when you call, or add it to the booking form's notes field.

Have a different question?

Tell us what make it is and what's going wrong. A few things can be settled over the phone, and anything else gets looked at during the visit.

It doesn't hurt. It records fault history and can point in the right direction. It can't tell a clogged filter from a failed pump, though, so we still test the parts before naming what failed.

Possibly. LG has covered compressors on many refrigerators for longer than its standard warranty. LG can confirm what applies to your model and purchase date. Often the compressor isn't the problem anyway, and the repair turns out to be a fan, sensor or defrost part.

Humid weather makes it worse because the machine never dries inside. Wipe the door boot, leave the door and dispenser drawer open between loads, clean the pump filter and run Tub Clean when tcL appears. If the smell stays, the boot may be holding mildew and need replacing.
