Frigidaire Repair in Houses, Townhomes and Condos

Frigidaire is the appliance that came with a lot of houses and apartments: the range in a rental, the dishwasher a builder chose, the upright freezer in the basement. Because a new one isn't expensive, every repair has to make sense against replacement, and we keep that comparison in front of you. We are independent of Electrolux and its service program, so a Frigidaire still under the factory warranty should go to Electrolux first. Otherwise, we diagnose it on site, explain the failure and quote the repair, and you decide.

Condos & high-rises
Many buildings want a loading-dock slot, an elevator booking or a sign-in at the desk. Mention those rules at booking so the visit fits them.
Stacked laundry
Washer-dryer stacks in closets and hall nooks often have to come out of the space to be worked on. Measurements or a photo help us prepare.
Older houses
A new appliance in a house built decades ago can be let down by the outlet, gas line, drain or vent behind it. We test the supply as well as the machine.
Tenants & owners
A renter can book the visit. We report the fault and the quote to the owner or property manager, whose approval comes before any repair.
Humid summers & garages
Sticky summer air makes fridges sweat and front-loader gaskets smell, and a garage fridge can struggle in the heat. Some of that is upkeep, not a failed part.
A straight answer
If fixing an older unit makes little sense, you will hear that from us, along with which part gave out.

How a Repair Visit Works

01

Book the Visit

Call or use the form. Name the make and describe the fault; a model number, if handy, speeds up parts.

02

Find the Fault

At your place, the technician checks the appliance and whatever feeds it (power, water, drain, gas or venting) until the cause is clear.

03

Approve the Price

You get a plain explanation and a price for the repair. The work starts only if you say yes.

04

Fix and Check

The new part is fitted and the appliance is run through a cycle, so you can see it working.

Frigidaire

A century-old name under Swedish ownership

The Frigidaire name dates to 1919, shortly after William Durant, a co-founder of General Motors, bought a small refrigerator company. GM ran it for about sixty years before selling it in 1979 to White Consolidated Industries. Electrolux bought WCI in 1986 and has owned Frigidaire ever since.

Frigidaire is now Electrolux's main brand in North America, with Gallery and Professional as its higher trims. Electrolux still manufactures in the Southeast: ranges and wall ovens in Springfield, Tennessee; refrigerators and freezers in Anderson, South Carolina; dishwashers in Kinston, North Carolina. Frigidaire factories also built models sold under other names, including many Kenmores.

Where it tends to be

Landlords buy Frigidaire, so it fills garden apartments, rented townhouses and the houses near the University of Maryland that are let by the room. Stacked laundry centers fit the closets in those units. In the postwar ramblers and split-levels of Silver Spring and Wheaton, the spare freezer humming away in the basement or the garage is very often a Frigidaire.

Gas ranges are common here because so many houses already have Washington Gas service, and plenty of older kitchens still run a coil-top electric Frigidaire on the original range circuit.

Things to rule out early

Side-by-sides with the ice maker in the freezer door have their own habits, mostly jammed buckets and frost. A freezer parked in an uninsulated garage may be reacting to the room rather than failing. A washer drain that backs up may be the standpipe, not the pump. These get checked first, because they change the answer.

Honest math on repair versus replace

Swapping a fill valve, a gas igniter, a heating element, a fan motor or a defrost heater on a Frigidaire is money well spent. Chasing a refrigerant leak in an aging fridge, rebuilding a front-loader with bad bearings, or hunting down an obsolete board for an old range usually is not. We give you the number and our opinion before you spend anything.

Frigidaire, product by product

  • Refrigerators: Top-freezer, bottom-freezer, side-by-side and French-door models, from basic units to Gallery and Professional. Ice makers in the freezer door, defrost failures, fans and water valves lead.
  • Washers: Top-loaders, front-loaders and the washer half of stacked laundry centers. Lid switches, door locks, drain pumps, suspension springs, boots and bearings are the usual work.
  • Dryers: Gas and electric dryers, including the upper half of laundry centers. Blown thermal fuses, gas valve coils, igniters, elements, belts and rollers are what typically fail.
  • Dishwashers: Frigidaire and Gallery built-ins with removable filters. Jammed drain pumps, clogged fill valves, worn latches, seized wash motors and control faults make up most calls.
  • Ovens: Single, double and combination wall ovens, many with convection and air fry. Bake and broil elements, sensors, convection fans and elements, and self-clean locks are regular repairs.
  • Microwaves: Over-the-range, countertop and built-in microwaves. No-heat faults, interlock switches that blow the fuse, noisy vent fans, turntable motors and dead keypads are typical.
  • Freezers: Upright and chest freezers, frost-free and manual defrost, including Garage Ready and freezer column models. Start relays, thermostats, defrost parts, fans and gaskets.
  • Cooktops: Gas, smoothtop radiant and induction models. Typical work: sparking that won't stop, dead radiant elements, switches stuck on high, induction boards and broken glass.
  • Stoves: Freestanding gas, coil-top and smoothtop electric stoves with rear controls. Oven igniters, bake elements, burned coil receptacles, infinite switches and spark switches.
  • Ranges: Front-control, slide-in and air fry ranges in the Gallery and Professional lines. Touch panels, oven sensors, convection fans, gas igniters and induction boards come up often.

Getting Frigidaire parts

So many Frigidaire appliances are in service that most parts are easy to get, through Electrolux and a broad distributor network. Igniters, valves, elements and defrost parts are routine. Older Gallery boards and some ice maker and dispenser parts are scarcer, and a few have been replaced by redesigned kits that fit differently. Parts are matched to the complete model number, and if what arrives is an equivalent or a redesigned kit, you'll know that before you approve.

FAQ

Frigidaire Repair Questions

The questions that come up most often. Anything not covered here, ask us when you call, or add it to the booking form's notes field.

Have a different question?

Tell us what make it is and what's going wrong. A few things can be settled over the phone, and anything else gets looked at during the visit.

The brand started in the US and much of it is still built here, but it has been owned by the Swedish Electrolux Group since 1986. Electrolux makes Frigidaire refrigerators, freezers, ranges and dishwashers at plants in South Carolina, Tennessee and North Carolina.

A Kenmore model number starts with a short code, before the period, that identifies who built it. Send us the full number from the rating label and we'll look it up and order parts under the original manufacturer's numbers.

It means that model is designed to run across the wider temperature swings of a garage. Other models expect a heated room and may not run properly when the space gets very cold or very hot. Your manual lists the range.

Go to Electrolux first. We are not part of the Frigidaire or Electrolux service network, and warranty work runs through them. Once coverage ends, call or book online.
