GE Appliances Repair in Houses, Townhomes and Condos

Few names have been in American kitchens longer than GE, and that long run is good news for repair: the platforms are well documented and most parts are easy to get. We are independent and have no tie to GE Appliances or its service network. If your GE, Profile or Café appliance is still under the maker's warranty, go to GE Appliances first. Once that coverage is behind you, we diagnose it where it stands, tell you what failed and what the fix will cost, and wait for your go-ahead.

Condos & high-rises
Many buildings want a loading-dock slot, an elevator booking or a sign-in at the desk. Mention those rules at booking so the visit fits them.
Stacked laundry
Washer-dryer stacks in closets and hall nooks often have to come out of the space to be worked on. Measurements or a photo help us prepare.
Older houses
A new appliance in a house built decades ago can be let down by the outlet, gas line, drain or vent behind it. We test the supply as well as the machine.
Tenants & owners
A renter can book the visit. We report the fault and the quote to the owner or property manager, whose approval comes before any repair.
Humid summers & garages
Sticky summer air makes fridges sweat and front-loader gaskets smell, and a garage fridge can struggle in the heat. Some of that is upkeep, not a failed part.
A straight answer
If fixing an older unit makes little sense, you will hear that from us, along with which part gave out.

How a Repair Visit Works

01

Book the Visit

Call or use the form. Name the make and describe the fault; a model number, if handy, speeds up parts.

02

Find the Fault

At your place, the technician checks the appliance and whatever feeds it (power, water, drain, gas or venting) until the cause is clear.

03

Approve the Price

You get a plain explanation and a price for the repair. The work starts only if you say yes.

04

Fix and Check

The new part is fitted and the appliance is run through a cycle, so you can see it working.

GE Appliances

A Kentucky company under Chinese ownership

Headquartered at Louisville's Appliance Park, GE Appliances has belonged to Haier since 2016; General Electric licenses it the GE name. Louisville builds washers, dryers, dishwashers and bottom-freezer and French-door refrigerators, Decatur, Alabama builds refrigerators, and LaFayette, Georgia builds ranges, wall ovens and cooktops.

The same company sells GE, GE Profile, Café, Monogram, Hotpoint and Haier-branded products. GE, Profile and Café share a great deal underneath the trim, so a Café range and a Profile range can take many of the same parts.

From original ramblers to rebuilt Bethesda kitchens

GE has a place in nearly every generation of local housing. A postwar rambler in Wheaton or Silver Spring may still have a GE top-freezer or wall oven that has outlasted two renovations, and townhouse communities built from the 1980s onward were often handed over with a matched GE package from the builder.

At the other end, the new houses that replaced older homes in Bethesda and Chevy Chase often have Café or Monogram appliances, and the large Potomac kitchens sometimes pair Monogram columns with a pro-style range. The engineering changes a lot across that span, which is why the model number matters before we say anything about parts.

Clues GE builds into its appliances

GE ovens and ranges have long used F-codes. F3 and F4 both point at the oven temperature sensor circuit, and F7 means the control thinks a key is stuck. Several GE refrigerators check for an RFID chip in the RPWFE water filter and restrict dispensing without a recognized one.

Mechanically, GE top-load washers use a drive motor with a shifter and clutch or mode shifter depending on generation, and GE dryers turn a belt-driven drum that rides on rollers, glides or a bearing, depending on the model.

Weighing a GE repair

Most GE failures are one part: an igniter, a fan, a valve, a pump, a sensor. On a GE in decent shape those are almost always worth doing.

The harder calls are a sealed-system leak or compressor failure on an older refrigerator, a washer transmission, or a control board that GE no longer supplies. In those cases we lay out repair and replacement side by side and tell you which we would pick.

GE Appliances, product by product

  • Refrigerators: GE, Profile and Café refrigerators in every layout from top-freezer to French-door. Most visits trace to defrost trouble, a stalled fan, an ice maker, a water valve or the main board.
  • Washers: Top-load washers with agitators or impellers, front-loaders, and the newer UltraFast combo units. Shifters, lid locks, drain pumps and suspension parts are the common repairs.
  • Dryers: GE gas and electric dryers, freestanding or stacked. Thermal fuses, elements, igniters, belts, drum glides and rollers make up most of the work.
  • Dishwashers: Built-in GE, Profile and Café dishwashers from the Louisville plant. Filters, drain pumps, inlet valves, door latches and heating circuits fail most.
  • Ovens: Single, double and combination wall ovens, plus Advantium speed-cook ovens. Oven sensors, elements, igniters, door locks and keypads are the usual parts.
  • Microwaves: Over-the-range and countertop GE microwaves, including Advantium units. No heat, door switch failures, vent fans, keypads and turntables are the common faults.
  • Freezers: GE chest and upright freezers and the freezer compartments of its refrigerators. Defrost heaters, fans, start relays, thermostats and gaskets top the list.
  • Cooktops: Gas, radiant and induction cooktops under all three GE labels. Spark igniters and modules, radiant elements, burner switches, induction boards and broken glass are routine repairs.
  • Wine Coolers: Undercounter wine and beverage centers, mainly Profile, Café and Monogram. Thermistors, fans, door seals and controls are what usually fail.
  • Stoves: Freestanding GE gas and electric stoves of the kind found in older kitchens and rentals. Oven igniters, bake elements, coil receptacles and burner switches are routine repairs.
  • Ranges: Freestanding, slide-in and front-control ranges in gas, electric, induction and dual-fuel. Keypads, control relays, igniters, sensors and convection fans are frequent repairs.

Getting GE Appliances parts

GE parts are some of the simplest to source. GE Appliances sells them directly, national distributors stock the fast-moving items, and GE, Profile, Hotpoint and some Café models share a large pool of components. The snags are older numbers that have been superseded and a few control boards on older ranges and refrigerators that are no longer made. Every part is looked up against your model and serial number, and you'll hear when the replacement is a newer or equivalent part rather than the original.

FAQ

GE Appliances Repair Questions

The questions that come up most often. Anything not covered here, ask us when you call, or add it to the booking form's notes field.

Have a different question?

Tell us what make it is and what's going wrong. A few things can be settled over the phone, and anything else gets looked at during the visit.

Not in a way you would notice. GE Appliances kept its own name, parts numbering and parts sales after the sale. What limits an older GE is age, not ownership: some boards from past generations are simply no longer produced.

Not necessarily. Appliances bought together don't fail together; each has its own wear parts and use pattern. Repair the one that failed if it's worth it, and there is no need to replace the matching set.

Café shares much of its engineering with GE Profile, but it adds features and finishes, and some models are Café-only designs. Many internal parts cross over. We confirm by model number rather than assuming.

Monogram is GE's built-in luxury line, with column refrigerators, pro-style ranges and wall ovens designed for custom cabinetry. The diagnosis follows the same logic, but access often means working around panels and trim, and some parts are Monogram-specific with longer lead times.
