Maytag Repair in Houses, Townhomes and Condos

A Maytag that is still inside its manufacturer's warranty should go to Maytag first. We are an independent repair company with no connection to Maytag or Whirlpool's service program, so we can't do warranty work. When the coverage has ended, a technician comes to the house, finds the part that wore out, explains it, and gives you a price. Nothing gets opened up for repair until you have agreed to that number.

Condos & high-rises
Many buildings want a loading-dock slot, an elevator booking or a sign-in at the desk. Mention those rules at booking so the visit fits them.
Stacked laundry
Washer-dryer stacks in closets and hall nooks often have to come out of the space to be worked on. Measurements or a photo help us prepare.
Older houses
A new appliance in a house built decades ago can be let down by the outlet, gas line, drain or vent behind it. We test the supply as well as the machine.
Tenants & owners
A renter can book the visit. We report the fault and the quote to the owner or property manager, whose approval comes before any repair.
Humid summers & garages
Sticky summer air makes fridges sweat and front-loader gaskets smell, and a garage fridge can struggle in the heat. Some of that is upkeep, not a failed part.
A straight answer
If fixing an older unit makes little sense, you will hear that from us, along with which part gave out.

How a Repair Visit Works

01

Book the Visit

Call or use the form. Name the make and describe the fault; a model number, if handy, speeds up parts.

02

Find the Fault

At your place, the technician checks the appliance and whatever feeds it (power, water, drain, gas or venting) until the cause is clear.

03

Approve the Price

You get a plain explanation and a price for the repair. The work starts only if you say yes.

04

Fix and Check

The new part is fitted and the appliance is run through a cycle, so you can see it working.

Maytag

Two eras under one badge

For most of the twentieth century Maytag was an independent company in Newton, Iowa, and a direct competitor of Whirlpool. Whirlpool bought it in 2006 and closed the Newton operations not long after. So a Maytag made in the last fifteen-plus years is a Whirlpool design with Maytag styling and a Maytag feature set.

That split matters on a service call. A modern Maytag shares pumps, valves, lid locks, igniters and control families with Whirlpool, Amana and KitchenAid machines of the same age. An older, pre-merger Maytag, such as a Neptune front-loader, is its own engineering, and parts for it are a separate question.

Maytag laundry in local houses

The typical Maytag call around here is a washer and dryer in the basement of a postwar house in Silver Spring or Wheaton: a Cape Cod or rambler with a laundry corner near the furnace and a utility sink. Gas dryers are common in those homes, since Washington Gas already serves the furnace and water heater. In townhouse communities the pair is more often upstairs in a closet, and in rental units near the University of Maryland the washer takes a lot of hard use.

Summer humidity plays a role. A damp basement slows drying, and a front-load washer left closed after the last load grows mildew in its door gasket. Leaving the door and dispenser ajar between loads does more to prevent odor than any cleaner.

Maytag-only features we check separately

Some Maytag models add parts a plain Whirlpool lacks. Pet Pro laundry has an extra filter to catch fur. The Dual Power Filtration dishwasher combines a mesh screen and a steel chopping blade. Models marketed with Commercial Technology use a heavier-duty motor and drive, and many refrigerators carry a PowerCold fast-chill mode. Each of these can be tested by itself, which keeps the diagnosis short.

Deciding whether to fix it

Most failures on a modern Maytag are single wear items, and those are nearly always worth replacing. Three situations make it a closer decision: refrigerant leaking from a fridge's sealed system, a washer whose transmission or tub bearing has gone, and an older pre-merger Maytag that needs a board or motor nobody makes anymore. We confirm parts supply for your model first, then give you an honest read on whether the money is better spent on a new machine.

Maytag, product by product

  • Refrigerators: French-door, side-by-side and top-freezer models on Whirlpool platforms, many with PowerCold. Ice makers, fill valves, defrost components and fan motors make up most repairs.
  • Washers: Everything from agitator top-loaders and Pet Pro models to front-loaders, with the odd Bravos or Neptune still going. Typical fixes: lid locks, drain pumps, shifters, couplers, suspension.
  • Dryers: Gas and electric dryers, including steam and Commercial Technology models. Thermal fuses blown by lint-choked vents, igniters, heating coils, belts, rollers and idlers top the list.
  • Dishwashers: Dual Power Filtration models with a fine filter and a stainless chopper, many with a third rack. We replace drain pumps, fill valves, door latches and wash motors and clear clogged filters.
  • Ovens: Whirlpool-family wall ovens: single, double, and paired with a microwave. Hidden bake elements, oven sensors, convection fans and self-clean door locks are frequent repairs.
  • Microwaves: Over-the-range microwaves that double as the range hood, and some countertop models. Common calls: runs but won't heat, door switches, hood fans, turntable drives and worn keypads.
  • Freezers: Freezer sections of Maytag refrigerators and standalone uprights and chests, often in basements or garages. Defrost heaters, start relays, fan motors and gaskets cause most trouble.
  • Cooktops: Gas, smoothtop radiant and induction cooktops set into the counter. Clicking spark switches, cold radiant zones, burners stuck on high and cracked glass are what we usually fix.
  • Stoves: Freestanding gas and electric stoves with knobs at the back. Weak bake igniters, bake and surface elements, scorched surface-element receptacles and spark switches come up most.
  • Ranges: Slide-in, front-control and freestanding convection ranges with features like Power Preheat. We see dead touch keys, drifting sensors, stalled convection fans and tired oven igniters.

Getting Maytag parts

Because a current Maytag is built on Whirlpool platforms, its common wear parts are carried by the national parts distributors and usually cross-reference to Whirlpool, Amana and KitchenAid numbers, which keeps them easy to find. Machines designed before the 2006 merger are a different story: a number of Neptune-era boards, early refrigerator controls and some washer transmissions have been discontinued or exist only as rebuilds. Your full model number is the first thing we look up, and if the part we can get is an equivalent, you'll hear that before approving.

FAQ

Maytag Repair Questions

The questions that come up most often. Anything not covered here, ask us when you call, or add it to the booking form's notes field.

Have a different question?

Tell us what make it is and what's going wrong. A few things can be settled over the phone, and anything else gets looked at during the visit.

Partly. Commercial Technology models have a heavier motor and drive, and Maytag dishwashers add a chopper. The platform underneath is Whirlpool's, though, and most wear parts are shared, so parts supply and the repair itself are nearly identical between the two names.

Some are. Door locks, pumps and certain boards are still sold, occasionally as updated kits. Other parts, particularly some motor control boards, are hard to find now. Before you put money into one, we check what is actually still sold for that model.

Usually not. Humid weather and a closed door let water sit in the gasket fold and the dispenser. Wipe the gasket, run the clean cycle with the cleaner the manual names, then prop the door and the detergent drawer open after each wash. If it still smells, check the drain filter and the drain hose for standing water.

The fuse is a safety part that opens when the dryer overheats, and the usual cause is a clogged or crushed vent. A new fuse will just blow again unless the blocked vent is cleared first. We check the vent run along with the dryer.
