True Residential Repair in Houses, Townhomes and Condos

Most True equipment we see was built to survive a restaurant, and the residential models share that heavy construction. The upside is a long service life. The practical consequence is that we diagnose it the way a commercial refrigeration tech would: condenser, airflow, fans and controls before anything else. We service True independently, outside True's warranty network, so a unit still covered by True should go through them first.

Condos & high-rises
Many buildings want a loading-dock slot, an elevator booking or a sign-in at the desk. Mention those rules at booking so the visit fits them.
Stacked laundry
Washer-dryer stacks in closets and hall nooks often have to come out of the space to be worked on. Measurements or a photo help us prepare.
Older houses
A new appliance in a house built decades ago can be let down by the outlet, gas line, drain or vent behind it. We test the supply as well as the machine.
Tenants & owners
A renter can book the visit. We report the fault and the quote to the owner or property manager, whose approval comes before any repair.
Humid summers & garages
Sticky summer air makes fridges sweat and front-loader gaskets smell, and a garage fridge can struggle in the heat. Some of that is upkeep, not a failed part.
A straight answer
If fixing an older unit makes little sense, you will hear that from us, along with which part gave out.

How a Repair Visit Works

01

Book the Visit

Call or use the form. Name the make and describe the fault; a model number, if handy, speeds up parts.

02

Find the Fault

At your place, the technician checks the appliance and whatever feeds it (power, water, drain, gas or venting) until the cause is clear.

03

Approve the Price

You get a plain explanation and a price for the repair. The work starts only if you say yes.

04

Fix and Check

The new part is fitted and the appliance is run through a cycle, so you can see it working.

True Residential

Built in Missouri since 1945

True Manufacturing was founded in 1945 by the Trulaske family and is still family-owned, with its headquarters in O'Fallon, Missouri. The name is best known in foodservice: solid- and glass-door reach-ins, sandwich and pizza prep tables, back-bar and bottle coolers, and merchandisers.

The home line, True Residential, uses the same heavy-gauge approach in undercounter fridges, freezers and drawers, glass-door wine and beverage units, tall columns and outdoor-rated models. We tend to find these in larger Potomac and Bethesda homes, built into a basement bar, a butler's pantry or an outdoor kitchen by the pool. The commercial units live in restaurant and bar kitchens in downtown Bethesda and Silver Spring and along Route 1 in College Park.

Simple systems, predictable faults

A True cabinet is straightforward: a compressor, a condenser coil, an evaporator coil, fans and a controller. What goes wrong is just as plain. Behind a restaurant line, the coil picks up a sticky blend of fryer vapor and flour dust, and that film is behind more warm reach-ins and prep tables than anything else. At home, it's more often dust and pet hair in the front grille of an undercounter unit. Both are preventable with regular cleaning.

Prep tables have a quirk of their own. Those pans sitting in the top well get their cold second-hand, from air blown up out of the base. Leave the cover up through a rush, overfill the pans, or let a stray lid block the duct, and the toppings warm while the thermometer inside the doors looks perfect.

Heat, humidity and the location

Maryland summers test refrigeration. A True undercounter in an outdoor kitchen or a hot basement bar has to reject heat into warm, humid air, and a glass door will sweat when the air is damp enough. In a commercial kitchen, a reach-in parked beside the fryer battles the same problem all year. We look at where the unit sits and how it breathes, along with the unit itself.

In a restaurant the first question is what to do with the food. Before we start, you'll know whether the box has to be emptied for the job and whether the part is likely to be a quick pickup or an order. At home the question is access, and it's usually easy: these undercounter units take air in and out at the toe grille, so a lot of the work happens without sliding the unit out of the millwork.

True Residential, product by product

  • Refrigerators: At home: undercounter units, drawers and columns. At work: reach-ins, prep tables, bar coolers. Either way the list is familiar, a clogged condenser, a stalled fan, a torn gasket, a worn hinge or a controller misreading its probe.
  • Freezers: Column and undercounter freezers in homes, plus reach-in and undercounter units in commercial kitchens. Defrost trouble is the big one, with the coil turning into a block of ice, followed by tired fan motors and door seals.
  • Wine Coolers: Glass-front wine cabinets and beverage coolers from the home line, one or two zones. People call when a zone creeps warm, a fan hums or rattles, the lights go out or the seal gives up.

Getting True Residential parts

The commercial refrigeration supply houses stock True parts well, and fans, gaskets, door hardware, thermostats and controllers are rarely a problem to get. Residential parts are available too, though fewer are kept on the shelf. True tracks build details by serial number, so we read the data plate, order to that, and tell you honestly how long the part should take.

FAQ

True Residential Repair Questions

The questions that come up most often. Anything not covered here, ask us when you call, or add it to the booking form's notes field.

Have a different question?

Tell us what make it is and what's going wrong. A few things can be settled over the phone, and anything else gets looked at during the visit.

The thinking behind them is the same, but a residential undercounter and a commercial reach-in don't share a parts list. We never assume one fits the other; the data plate on your unit decides.

Shine a light on the condenser. If it's furred with lint or grease, that alone can explain it. Clear any boxes stacked against the vents, and check that the door swings shut on its own and seals. When all of that is fine, the problem is in the fans, the controller or the sealed system.

Only a model rated for outdoor use. An indoor unit placed outside can struggle in summer heat and humidity. If you're not sure which yours is, the model number tells us, and we can check it when we visit.

Probably not. The cabinets and hardware outlast most of what's inside them, and the usual failures are cheap to fix. If an older unit needs a compressor or a refrigerant repair, the numbers get closer, and we'll give you our honest read.
