Thermador Repair in Houses, Townhomes and Condos
Thermador has been part of BSH, the Bosch appliance group, since 1998, and its kitchens tend to be bought as a set and used hard. We service Thermador equipment independently. We are not an authorized Thermador service provider, and a product still under the manufacturer's warranty should be booked with Thermador so the repair is covered. When that period is over, we come to the house, find what failed, explain it, and nothing is ordered or installed until you have agreed to the number.
How a Repair Visit Works
Book the Visit
Call or use the form. Name the make and describe the fault; a model number, if handy, speeds up parts.
Find the Fault
At your place, the technician checks the appliance and whatever feeds it (power, water, drain, gas or venting) until the cause is clear.
Approve the Price
You get a plain explanation and a price for the repair. The work starts only if you say yes.
Fix and Check
The new part is fitted and the appliance is run through a cycle, so you can see it working.

A California name under a German owner
Thermador was founded in Los Angeles in 1916 and made its reputation on built-in cooking: wall ovens, cooktops and, later, pro-style ranges with its star-shaped burner. BSH Home Appliances, the Bosch-owned group that also sells Bosch and Gaggenau, bought the brand in 1998.
Under BSH, some product lines share engineering with Bosch while others stay distinctly Thermador. The dishwashers sit on BSH's dishwasher platform. The ranges, rangetops and gas cooktops keep their own burner, ignition and valve design. The Freedom refrigeration columns are built-in units with their own electronics. Knowing which family a product belongs to tells us what failures to expect.
Whole-kitchen suites in Potomac and Chevy Chase
Thermador is often specified as a full package: a 48-inch range or a rangetop over wall ovens, a pair of Freedom columns, a matching dishwasher and sometimes a wine column. We see those suites in large Potomac kitchens and in the new houses built on Bethesda and Chevy Chase lots after an older home came down, as well as in renovated condos that went all-in on the kitchen.
Because the pieces arrived together, they tend to age together. When one fails, it helps to know the model family of the others, and we will mention anything we notice on the neighboring appliances while we are there.
Details that confuse owners
The Star burner has five points instead of a round rim, which gives it more port length and spreads the flame toward the edge of the pan. A single clogged point shows up as a visible gap in the flame. Many Thermador gas products also have ExtraLow burners that hold a very gentle simmer by switching the flame off and relighting it on a cycle. That periodic clicking during a simmer is normal behavior, not a fault.
On BSH-built products, the rating label carries an FD number alongside the model number. It identifies the production run, and BSH does change parts between runs, so we record it every time.
Thermador, product by product
- Refrigerators: Freedom built-in columns plus integrated bottom-freezer and French-door models. Common work: ice makers, evaporator fans, defrost faults, dusty condensers and heavy panel doors that drift out of adjustment.
- Dishwashers: Star Sapphire, Emerald and Topaz dishwashers on the BSH platform. We handle leak-protection lockouts, drain and circulation pumps, heater faults and broken door hinge springs or cables.
- Ovens: Masterpiece and Professional wall ovens, steam and combination steam ovens, and speed ovens. Convection elements and fans, self-clean door locks, oven sensors and scale in the steam system.
- Microwaves: Microwave drawers, built-in microwaves and speed ovens. Drawers that stall or won't close, units that run without heating, door switch failures and unresponsive touch panels.
- Freezers: Freedom freezer columns and the freezer drawers of integrated refrigerators. Frost from door seal leaks, defrost heater and sensor faults, frozen ice maker fill tubes and fan noise.
- Cooktops: Star burner gas cooktops and rangetops, plus induction cooktops including Freedom Induction. Nonstop sparking, ExtraLow questions, induction pan detection, cooling fans and cracked glass.
- Wine Coolers: Built-in wine columns and undercounter wine units with separate temperature zones. Zones drifting warm, fan noise, tired glass door seals, sensors and controls.
- Stoves: The Thermador range as a daily cook sees it: a burner that won't light, a flame with a gap, clicking that won't stop, or an oven that no longer matches its setting.
- Ranges: Pro Harmony and Pro Grand ranges in gas, dual-fuel and induction, many with a griddle or grill. Oven igniters, spark modules, valves, convection elements, steam oven parts and door hinges.
Getting Thermador parts
Thermador parts come through BSH's North American parts operation. Burner heads and caps, igniters, spark switches, dishwasher pumps and standard oven elements are usually stocked. Freedom column electronics, induction power boards, steam oven components and cosmetic pieces for discontinued Pro models move more slowly, and some have been replaced by newer part numbers. We take the model and FD numbers at the first visit, confirm the exact part and tell you the expected lead time before anything is ordered.

Thermador Repair Questions
The questions that come up most often. Anything not covered here, ask us when you call, or add it to the booking form's notes field.
Have a different question?
Tell us what make it is and what's going wrong. A few things can be settled over the phone, and anything else gets looked at during the visit.
ExtraLow is a simmer setting on certain Thermador burners. To stay below what a steady flame can manage, the burner lights, goes out, and lights again on a timed pattern, and every relight clicks. So a rhythmic click at a low setting is expected. It is a problem if the burner fails to relight or keeps sparking with the knob off.
Mechanically, they share BSH's dishwasher platform, so pumps, heaters, sensors and many failure patterns line up with Bosch models of the same generation. Racks, features, interior finish and styling are Thermador's own. The overlap generally makes internal parts easier to source.
Look for the rating label. On most ranges it is behind the lower kick panel or warming drawer, or on the frame inside the oven door. Dishwashers carry it on the side edge of the door. A clear photo of that label before the visit saves time.
No, call Thermador first so the repair is covered. We are independent and cannot perform warranty work for them. Once coverage ends, we can diagnose and quote the repair in your kitchen.
