Kenmore Repair in Houses, Townhomes and Condos

The name on the door says Kenmore; the machine behind it was built by someone else, and that decides how we fix it. We work independently and have no connection to Kenmore, Sears or Transformco, and we do not handle warranty or protection-plan claims. If yours is still covered, start there. Once it isn't, we come out, identify the real builder from the model number, test the appliance, and give you a price you can accept or decline before any part is ordered.

Condos & high-rises
Many buildings want a loading-dock slot, an elevator booking or a sign-in at the desk. Mention those rules at booking so the visit fits them.
Stacked laundry
Washer-dryer stacks in closets and hall nooks often have to come out of the space to be worked on. Measurements or a photo help us prepare.
Older houses
A new appliance in a house built decades ago can be let down by the outlet, gas line, drain or vent behind it. We test the supply as well as the machine.
Tenants & owners
A renter can book the visit. We report the fault and the quote to the owner or property manager, whose approval comes before any repair.
Humid summers & garages
Sticky summer air makes fridges sweat and front-loader gaskets smell, and a garage fridge can struggle in the heat. Some of that is upkeep, not a failed part.
A straight answer
If fixing an older unit makes little sense, you will hear that from us, along with which part gave out.

How a Repair Visit Works

01

Book the Visit

Call or use the form. Name the make and describe the fault; a model number, if handy, speeds up parts.

02

Find the Fault

At your place, the technician checks the appliance and whatever feeds it (power, water, drain, gas or venting) until the cause is clear.

03

Approve the Price

You get a plain explanation and a price for the repair. The work starts only if you say yes.

04

Fix and Check

The new part is fitted and the appliance is run through a cycle, so you can see it working.

Kenmore

Sold by Sears, built by others

Kenmore began as a Sears house brand and spent most of the twentieth century on the showroom floors of Sears stores. Sears had most of its Kenmore appliances made under contract rather than in factories of its own. Whirlpool, Frigidaire and later LG were among the major suppliers, and a Kenmore refrigerator and a Kenmore dryer bought the same afternoon could have come from two unrelated companies.

After the Sears bankruptcy, Transformco (Transform Holdco) bought the brand along with most of Sears's remaining assets in 2019, and it still owns it. That changed where Kenmore is sold, not the basic arrangement: someone other than Kenmore builds the machine.

Three digits before the dot

A Kenmore model number reads like 110.12345678. The three digits before the period are a supplier code. A few of the common ones: 106 and 110 are Whirlpool, 253 and 790 are Frigidaire, and 795 and 796 are LG. There are many more, and codes have been reused over the decades, so we check the one on your tag instead of trusting memory.

Knowing the builder turns a Kenmore into a familiar machine. A 110 dryer is diagnosed as the Whirlpool dryer it is, and a 796 washer follows LG's service logic. If you send a clear photo of the tag when you book, that homework happens before we arrive.

The Kenmores we meet in Maryland homes

Kenmore sold in enormous numbers for a very long time, so its machines are scattered through every kind of house we visit. A washer and dryer pair in the basement of a Silver Spring Cape Cod, a chest freezer that moved with the family and now sits in a Wheaton garage, a range a landlord bought for a College Park rental: plenty of these are older and still running.

Age can help or hurt. Older Whirlpool-built laundry is mechanically simple and parts are plentiful. An aging refrigerator with a failing sealed system, or a machine that depends on a board nobody makes anymore, is a different story, and we tell you if we think the money is better spent on a replacement.

Where the parts come from

Replacement parts for a Kenmore generally trace back to the company that built it, and many are the same pieces used in that company's own branded models. Pumps, belts, igniters, valves, elements and fans are usually easy to get as a result. The exceptions are the Kenmore-specific pieces: front control panels, badges, some trim and certain boards, which can be hard to find for older models.

Kenmore, product by product

  • Refrigerators: Top-freezer, side-by-side, bottom-freezer and French-door models built mainly by Whirlpool (106), Frigidaire (253) and LG (795). Defrost faults, fans, ice makers and water valves top the list.
  • Washers: Top-load and front-load washers, mostly from Whirlpool (110) or LG (796). We replace drain pumps, lid locks and door locks, couplers, shifters and torn door boots.
  • Dryers: Electric and gas dryers, largely Whirlpool (110) and LG (796) designs. Thermal fuses, heating elements, igniters and gas valve coils, belts, rollers and idlers.
  • Dishwashers: Built-in Kenmore and Kenmore Elite dishwashers, sourced from several makers over the years. Most visits involve a dirty filter, a weak drain pump, a slow fill, a failed latch or a wash motor.
  • Ovens: The ovens in Kenmore ranges plus a smaller number of wall ovens. Bake and broil elements, temperature sensors, gas igniters and self-clean door locks fail most.
  • Microwaves: Over-the-range and countertop Kenmore microwaves from outside suppliers. Units that hum without heating, failed door switches, weak vent fans and stalled turntables.
  • Freezers: Chest and upright freezers, many made by Frigidaire (253). Start relays, thermostats, defrost parts on frost-free uprights and worn gaskets are frequent repairs.
  • Cooktops: Gas, glass radiant and coil electric cooktops and range tops. Ignition that won't stop clicking, cold radiant zones, burner switches stuck on high and scorched coil sockets are the usual calls.
  • Stoves: Freestanding Kenmore gas and electric stoves, common in rentals and original kitchens. Oven igniters, bake elements, surface ignition and burned coil sockets come up again and again.
  • Ranges: Freestanding and slide-in Kenmore ranges, many with convection and some with air fry. Touchpads, convection fans, oven sensors, control relays and igniters are typical.

Getting Kenmore parts

We order Kenmore parts under the builder's own part numbers, which we find from the supplier code, and most are identical to what that company puts in its own branded models. Wear items such as pumps, water valves, belts, igniters and motors are rarely a problem to source. Kenmore-only pieces like control panels, overlays, some boards and cosmetic trim can be scarce on older units, and some are gone for good. The full model number gets looked up before you see a price, and if an equivalent part is all that's left, the quote says so.

FAQ

Kenmore Repair Questions

The questions that come up most often. Anything not covered here, ask us when you call, or add it to the booking form's notes field.

Have a different question?

Tell us what make it is and what's going wrong. A few things can be settled over the phone, and anything else gets looked at during the visit.

They identify the company that built the appliance for Sears. Common examples: 106 and 110 for Whirlpool, 253 and 790 for Frigidaire, and 795 and 796 for LG. There are many others, so we look yours up rather than guess.

Refrigerators usually carry it on a side wall or the ceiling inside the fresh-food section. Top-load washers often have it near the lid hinge or on the rear; dryers and front-loaders inside the door opening. On a dishwasher, look along the edge of the door or the tub. A sharp phone photo is ideal.

Sometimes, yes. An old Whirlpool-built washer or dryer that needs a belt, pump, coupler or thermal fuse is a sensible repair. A compressor or refrigerant leak on an old fridge, or a discontinued control board, usually is not. You get our honest read and the price before any work.

No. We are independent and have no relationship with Kenmore, Transformco or Sears. If your appliance is covered by a manufacturer warranty or a protection plan, contact that provider before calling us.
