Fisher & Paykel Repair in Houses, Townhomes and Condos
Fisher & Paykel is a New Zealand brand that Haier has owned since 2012, and we have no business relationship with either one. We are independent, so if your appliance is still covered by the Fisher & Paykel warranty, contact them first and let that coverage do its job. When it has run out, we come to the house, find the fault, explain it in plain terms and give you a price before any part is ordered or fitted.
How a Repair Visit Works
Book the Visit
Call or use the form. Name the make and describe the fault; a model number, if handy, speeds up parts.
Find the Fault
At your place, the technician checks the appliance and whatever feeds it (power, water, drain, gas or venting) until the cause is clear.
Approve the Price
You get a plain explanation and a price for the repair. The work starts only if you say yes.
Fix and Check
The new part is fitted and the appliance is run through a cycle, so you can see it working.

Engineering that goes its own way
Fisher & Paykel is headquartered in Auckland, and it built a reputation on solving familiar problems in unfamiliar ways. The DishDrawer splits a dishwasher into two independent drawers. SmartDrive washers turn the drum straight off a motor with no belt or gearbox. ActiveSmart refrigerators time their defrost around how often the doors actually open.
The company bought DCS, a California maker of professional-style cooking equipment, in 2004, and Haier completed its purchase of Fisher & Paykel at the end of 2012. Those two events explain a lot about why an older range and a newer one can share a badge and almost no parts.
Why it suits some Maryland kitchens
The brand fits well in kitchens where space is tight or the cabinetry is the point. A double DishDrawer in a condo along Wisconsin Avenue avoids a full-height door swinging into a narrow galley, and an integrated column behind a wood panel keeps a remodeled Chevy Chase kitchen looking like furniture.
Larger Potomac homes sometimes carry a complete Fisher & Paykel suite: paired refrigerator and freezer columns, a wall oven stack and a pro-style range or rangetop, with a matching washer and dryer in a second-floor laundry room.
What the unusual designs mean for a diagnosis
Each drawer of a DishDrawer is a complete dishwasher, with its own pump, heater, lid and board. The water and power reach it through a flexible harness that bends every time the drawer opens. On SmartDrive washers the control reads the motor's rotor position to run the cycle, so a spin fault can start in the motor sensing rather than in anything mechanical.
Integrated columns and ActiveSmart models use separate sensors and often separate fans for each compartment. Before testing anything, we confirm the exact model, because service data differs a great deal between generations.
Getting parts
Fisher & Paykel runs its own parts operation for North America. DishDrawer seals and filters, refrigerator fans and oven elements usually come through without trouble. Less common electronics and cosmetic pieces take longer, and some older DCS-era cooking parts have long waits. You hear the expected timing at the diagnosis, before deciding.
Fisher & Paykel, product by product
- Refrigerators: Freestanding ActiveSmart models, built-in French-door units and integrated columns. Fans, sensors, defrost faults, ice makers and door panel alignment are the common repairs.
- Washers: Front-load and top-load washers, many built on the SmartDrive direct-drive motor. Rotor sensing, stators, drain pumps, suspension and door or lid locks come up most.
- Dryers: Vented electric and gas dryers, usually sold as a pair with the washer. Thermal fuses, elements, belts, rollers and moisture-sensor bars are the regular repairs.
- Dishwashers: Single and double DishDrawers plus some full-size built-ins. Lid seals, drawer filters, pumps, flex harness wear and lid motor faults lead the list.
- Ovens: Single and double wall ovens, many with pyrolytic self-clean, and combination steam or speed ovens. Latch motors, elements, cooling fans, probes and steam pumps wear first.
- Microwaves: Built-in microwaves and combination speed ovens set into wall cabinetry. No-heat faults, door interlocks, touch controls and convection parts account for most work.
- Freezers: Stand-alone integrated freezer columns and ActiveSmart freezer drawers. Defrost heaters and sensors, fans, ice makers, drawer runners and seals are typical work.
- Cooktops: Gas, induction and radiant electric cooktops, plus rangetops. Spark ignition, induction power boards, cooling fans, radiant elements and touch controls are common.
- Stoves: The freestanding range doing daily duty as the family stove. Oven igniters or elements, burner switches, induction zones and oven sensors cause most calls.
- Ranges: Professional-style gas, dual-fuel and induction ranges, some descended from DCS designs. Reignition sparking, igniters, convection fans and cooling fans are frequent repairs.
Getting Fisher & Paykel parts
Our Fisher & Paykel orders go through the company's own North American supply and the wholesalers who carry its catalog, always keyed to the model and serial printed on the label. Wear items such as DishDrawer lid seals and filters, fan motors, oven elements and igniters are rarely a problem. Electronic modules and parts for older DCS-derived cooking equipment can take noticeably longer, and a handful are no longer made. If only an equivalent part is available, we tell you before installing it.

Fisher & Paykel Repair Questions
The questions that come up most often. Anything not covered here, ask us when you call, or add it to the booking form's notes field.
Have a different question?
Tell us what make it is and what's going wrong. A few things can be settled over the phone, and anything else gets looked at during the visit.
Fisher & Paykel is still run as its own company from Auckland, where its designers still work, though Haier completed its takeover in late 2012 and production happens in several countries. For repair purposes the model number matters more than the country, since it tells us the platform and parts.
In most cases, yes. The two drawers have separate pumps, heaters and electronics. If the broken drawer is leaking, though, turn off the water supply, because both drawers share one connection. We can usually fix the faulty drawer without disturbing the working one.
Common wear parts for current and recent models usually arrive quickly through the maker's North American supply. Control boards and parts for discontinued models vary. We check availability for your model during the visit and give you the estimate before you approve the repair.
Contact Fisher & Paykel directly while the warranty is active. Covered repairs are handled through the maker's own arrangements, and an outside repair could muddy that. After the coverage ends, book with us and send a photo of the rating label if you can.
