JennAir Repair in Houses, Townhomes and Condos

JennAir is the luxury label of Whirlpool Corporation. Much of it runs on Whirlpool-engineered platforms, dressed in JennAir's own design and a few systems nobody else uses, most famously the downdraft vent. We fix JennAir appliances as an independent company, not as part of JennAir's authorized service network, so if yours is still under the manufacturer's warranty, file the claim with JennAir first. After that, we diagnose it in your kitchen and give you the repair price to accept or decline before anything is taken apart for good.

Condos & high-rises
Many buildings want a loading-dock slot, an elevator booking or a sign-in at the desk. Mention those rules at booking so the visit fits them.
Stacked laundry
Washer-dryer stacks in closets and hall nooks often have to come out of the space to be worked on. Measurements or a photo help us prepare.
Older houses
A new appliance in a house built decades ago can be let down by the outlet, gas line, drain or vent behind it. We test the supply as well as the machine.
Tenants & owners
A renter can book the visit. We report the fault and the quote to the owner or property manager, whose approval comes before any repair.
Humid summers & garages
Sticky summer air makes fridges sweat and front-loader gaskets smell, and a garage fridge can struggle in the heat. Some of that is upkeep, not a failed part.
A straight answer
If fixing an older unit makes little sense, you will hear that from us, along with which part gave out.

How a Repair Visit Works

01

Book the Visit

Call or use the form. Name the make and describe the fault; a model number, if handy, speeds up parts.

02

Find the Fault

At your place, the technician checks the appliance and whatever feeds it (power, water, drain, gas or venting) until the cause is clear.

03

Approve the Price

You get a plain explanation and a price for the repair. The work starts only if you say yes.

04

Fix and Check

The new part is fitted and the appliance is run through a cycle, so you can see it working.

JennAir

From an industrial fan maker to Whirlpool's top shelf

Louis Jenn founded the company in Indianapolis in 1947, originally making ventilation fans. Putting one of those fans inside a cooktop produced the downdraft range, which draws cooking fumes sideways and down into a vent at counter level rather than sending them up to a hood, and it defined the brand for decades. Maytag bought Jenn-Air in 1982, and it came to Whirlpool with Maytag in 2006; the hyphen was dropped later.

The current catalog covers built-in refrigerators and columns, wall ovens, pro-style ranges, cooktops, dishwashers, wine storage and microwaves. Under the skin, a lot of it is shared with KitchenAid and Whirlpool, and for anyone fixing it that's welcome news.

Downdraft vents and their hidden ductwork

Island kitchens in 1980s and 1990s houses, including many of the larger homes in Potomac, were natural spots for a downdraft cooktop, since it avoided a hood over the island. The duct from that vent usually drops through the floor and runs through the basement or crawlspace ceiling to an exterior wall. Treat that ductwork as one more component of the cooktop. When the fan roars but the steam still rises past it, the culprit may be a flattened elbow, years of grease inside the pipe, or an outside flap stuck shut.

The reverse problem shows up too. If the exterior flap sticks open, outside air drifts back down the duct and into the cabinet, and in humid weather that air can leave condensation in a long run through a cool basement.

Built into the cabinetry

A built-in JennAir refrigerator is anchored into its cabinet run, a panel-ready dishwasher is screwed to the countertop, and a wall oven is held by screws hidden behind its trim. We handle most jobs from the front. If a repair means pulling a unit, we cover the floor and neighboring panels first and plan the move before anything is unscrewed.

When repair wins

Swapping out a JennAir built-in is rarely simple. The replacement has to match the opening to within a fraction of an inch, the custom panels may not transfer, and sometimes a cabinet has to be modified. As long as parts can be had, fixing what's there usually costs less and disturbs less. Parts support is generally solid because so much is Whirlpool-based, and if something has been discontinued or only an equivalent remains, you hear that before approving the job.

JennAir, product by product

  • Refrigerators: Built-in French-door, side-by-side and column refrigerators, many with custom panels. We see ice makers that quit, dripping water valves, frozen fans, failed defrost parts, dusty top condensers and doors that sag.
  • Dishwashers: Built-in JennAir dishwashers, many with custom fronts. Grit and slow drains from a neglected filter, pumps, fill valves, door springs that can't carry the panel, and latch faults.
  • Ovens: Single, double and combination wall ovens, most with convection. We fix ovens that died after self-clean, locked doors, cooling fans, concealed bake elements, probes and controls.
  • Microwaves: Built-in, over-the-range and drawer microwaves plus speed ovens. No-heat faults, door switches, drawer mechanisms, convection parts and vent fans.
  • Cooktops: Downdraft, gas, radiant and induction cooktops. Weak downdraft blowers, greasy filters, pop-up vents that won't rise, spark ignition and induction power boards.
  • Wine Coolers: Undercounter wine cellars and column wine units. Zones that won't hold temperature, fans, probes, gaskets that no longer grip, LED lighting and displays.
  • Stoves: Most JennAir stoves we see are freestanding or slide-in ranges, and some are older downdraft models. Igniters, elements, oven probes and downdraft blowers come up most.
  • Ranges: Pro-style gas, dual-fuel and induction ranges plus older downdraft ranges. Nonstop clicking, slow-lighting ovens, noisy convection fans, bad oven probes and electronics hurt by a surge.

Getting JennAir parts

We order JennAir parts through Whirlpool's network, and because a large share of them are also used in KitchenAid and Whirlpool products, most arrive without much delay. Pieces unique to JennAir, such as handles, trim, panels and certain electronics, are slower, and some for early downdraft units are no longer made. The part number comes from your model and serial number, and we tell you plainly when an equivalent is the only choice.

FAQ

JennAir Repair Questions

The questions that come up most often. Anything not covered here, ask us when you call, or add it to the booking form's notes field.

Have a different question?

Tell us what make it is and what's going wrong. A few things can be settled over the phone, and anything else gets looked at during the visit.

Whirlpool Corporation owns JennAir, and many JennAir appliances share platforms with KitchenAid and Whirlpool models. That usually means well-known failure patterns and good parts availability, though JennAir-specific trim and some electronics can be slower.

It depends on parts. Many older downdraft blower motors, elements and switches are still available, but some controls and trim are gone. We check your model number before quoting, and if the needed part no longer exists, we tell you.

It shouldn't. We protect panels, flooring and cabinetry and do as much as possible from the front. The unit comes out of its opening only when the repair truly requires it.

No. Warranty service goes through JennAir's authorized network, so contact them while coverage lasts. We can help once the warranty has ended.
