Whirlpool Repair in Houses, Townhomes and Condos

Nobody at Whirlpool sends us out, and we don't speak for the company. We are an independent repair service, so a Whirlpool that is still inside its original warranty should be reported to Whirlpool before anyone else opens it. Once that coverage is over, the process is simple: the technician tests the machine where it stands, tells you which part quit and what the fix costs, and nothing is replaced until you say yes.

Condos & high-rises
Many buildings want a loading-dock slot, an elevator booking or a sign-in at the desk. Mention those rules at booking so the visit fits them.
Stacked laundry
Washer-dryer stacks in closets and hall nooks often have to come out of the space to be worked on. Measurements or a photo help us prepare.
Older houses
A new appliance in a house built decades ago can be let down by the outlet, gas line, drain or vent behind it. We test the supply as well as the machine.
Tenants & owners
A renter can book the visit. We report the fault and the quote to the owner or property manager, whose approval comes before any repair.
Humid summers & garages
Sticky summer air makes fridges sweat and front-loader gaskets smell, and a garage fridge can struggle in the heat. Some of that is upkeep, not a failed part.
A straight answer
If fixing an older unit makes little sense, you will hear that from us, along with which part gave out.

How a Repair Visit Works

01

Book the Visit

Call or use the form. Name the make and describe the fault; a model number, if handy, speeds up parts.

02

Find the Fault

At your place, the technician checks the appliance and whatever feeds it (power, water, drain, gas or venting) until the cause is clear.

03

Approve the Price

You get a plain explanation and a price for the repair. The work starts only if you say yes.

04

Fix and Check

The new part is fitted and the appliance is run through a cycle, so you can see it working.

Whirlpool

Built in the Midwest, shared across a family

Whirlpool Corporation has its headquarters in Benton Harbor, Michigan, and runs a string of big Ohio factories: top-load washers from Clyde, dryers from Marion and dishwashers from Findlay. Refrigerators, ranges and microwaves are built at other plants in the US and overseas.

The company also owns Maytag, KitchenAid, JennAir and Amana. Plenty of those machines come off the same lines as the Whirlpool-badged ones, so a pump or igniter ordered for one badge often fits another. The console and the feature list change; much of the hardware underneath does not.

The brand in Maryland homes and rentals

Whirlpool is what a lot of people end up with because it was in the house when they moved in. Postwar ramblers and split-levels in Silver Spring and Wheaton often have a Whirlpool top-loader and dryer in the basement, and landlords near the University of Maryland buy the brand because replacement parts are easy to find and cheap to keep on the shelf.

In the apartment and condo towers of downtown Bethesda and Silver Spring, a stacked Whirlpool washer-dryer tucked into a hall closet is a familiar sight. Those jobs come with their own logistics, such as booking the service elevator and signing in at the front desk, and it helps to mention them when you schedule.

Reading the model number first

Whirlpool has sold the same basic dryer, with a belt, an idler and two rear drum rollers, for many years, and a model number tells us which generation and which parts list we are dealing with. Washers are less uniform. An older direct-drive top-loader and a current high-efficiency model share a name and very little else.

Newer laundry and dishwashers report problems as codes. F8 E1, which some washers show as LF, means the tub took too long to fill, and F9 E1 means it took too long to drain. A code narrows the search. It does not replace testing the part it points to.

When a Whirlpool is worth the repair

The typical Whirlpool fault involves one inexpensive part, such as a thermal fuse, a lid lock, a drain pump, a water valve or an igniter. Those are easy calls.

Harder ones include a refrigerator that has lost its refrigerant, a washer with worn tub bearings, or an older unit whose control board is no longer made. On those we lay out the numbers honestly, and sometimes the answer is to spend the money on a replacement instead.

Whirlpool, product by product

  • Refrigerators: Top-freezer, bottom-freezer, side-by-side and French-door models. The usual work involves defrost parts, fans, ice makers, water valves and door gaskets.
  • Washers: Agitator and impeller top-loaders, older direct-drive machines and front-loaders. Couplers, lid and door locks, pumps, inlet valves and shifters come up most.
  • Dryers: Gas and electric dryers, including stacked and laundry-center units. Thermal fuses, elements, gas igniters and coils, belts, idlers and drum rollers top the list.
  • Dishwashers: Built-in dishwashers from the Findlay plant, most with a twist-out filter. Pumps, inlet valves, latches, float switches and clogged filters are routine calls.
  • Ovens: Single and double wall ovens plus the ovens in Whirlpool ranges. Bake and broil elements, sensors, gas igniters and self-clean locks are frequent repairs.
  • Microwaves: Over-the-range microwaves that vent the cooktop, and countertop units. No-heat faults, door switches, blower motors and keypads are the everyday work.
  • Freezers: Upright and chest freezers and refrigerator freezer sections. Start relays, defrost heaters, evaporator fans, thermostats and door seals are the usual work.
  • Cooktops: Gas, radiant glass and induction cooktops. Spark electrodes and modules, burner switches, radiant elements and cracked tops account for most visits.
  • Stoves: Basic freestanding gas and coil or glass-top electric stoves. Oven igniters, bake elements, burned burner receptacles and worn door hinges are common.
  • Ranges: Freestanding, front-control and slide-in ranges, gas and electric. Control boards, touch panels, sensors, igniters and convection fans are typical repairs.

Getting Whirlpool parts

Whirlpool parts are about as easy to get as appliance parts come. The maker sells them directly and a wide distributor network stocks them, and one part number often covers Maytag, Amana and KitchenAid models too. Where it gets harder is older electronics and trim: some boards are discontinued, and a few have been replaced by revised parts carrying new numbers. We look everything up by the full model and serial number, and if the part going in is an equivalent rather than a Whirlpool original, you hear that first.

FAQ

Whirlpool Repair Questions

The questions that come up most often. Anything not covered here, ask us when you call, or add it to the booking form's notes field.

Have a different question?

Tell us what make it is and what's going wrong. A few things can be settled over the phone, and anything else gets looked at during the visit.

Because the same company builds both, often on the same line. Pumps, valves, dryer heating parts and many washer components are shared across Whirlpool, Maytag, Amana and KitchenAid. That keeps parts easy to find. We still confirm fit against your exact model number.

Check your lease and ask the landlord first. Appliances supplied with a rental are normally the owner's responsibility, and the owner usually wants to approve the cost. If they ask us to come, we just need to know who is authorizing the work.

On many Whirlpool washers, F8 E1 is a slow fill and F9 E1 is a slow drain. For a fill code, check that both faucets are open and the hoses aren't kinked. For a drain code, look for a clogged pump filter or a drain hose shoved deep into the standpipe. If the code keeps coming back, the valve or pump gets tested.

On refrigerators, look for a sticker on a side wall or the ceiling of the fresh-food section. Washers put it under the lid or along the rear edge of the control console, dryers inside the door frame, and dishwashers on the edge of the inner door. On ranges, check behind the storage drawer or on the frame around the oven door.
