About TrueFix Maryland

We fix refrigerators, washers, dryers, dishwashers, ovens and the rest of the kitchen and laundry, in the homes and businesses where they're installed. What we promise is simple: no repair happens until you've heard the diagnosis and the price.

Who we are and what we do

TrueFix Maryland is an appliance repair service that comes to you. We don't sell appliances and there's no counter to drop one off at. A technician visits the house, the condo or the restaurant kitchen, works out why the machine stopped doing its job, and repairs it once you've agreed to the price.

Most calls are ordinary breakdowns that sound alike over the phone: a freezer that frosts over, a dryer that runs and runs, a dishwasher that leaves an inch of water behind. Each of those has several possible causes, and they don't cost the same to fix. That's why nobody quotes a number until the appliance has been tested.

We have no ties to any manufacturer. It lets us work on a mix of brands in one kitchen, and it's also why an appliance still inside its factory warranty should go back to its maker first.

The appliances we know

Gas and electric, freestanding and built in. That runs from the compact stacked washer-dryer in a high-rise closet to a panel-ready refrigerator set into custom cabinetry. For restaurants and offices, we also handle reach-in refrigeration, ice machines, dish machines and commercial cooking equipment.

Our standards

Facts first, then your decision

The appliance and the money are yours. Our job is to find the real fault, explain it in a way that holds together, and hand you a price you can accept or turn down. Four rules come out of that, and they apply on every visit.

Test before talking price

A washer that won't spin could need a lid switch, a belt or nothing more than a cleared pump filter. We find out which, then quote. Guessing over the phone helps nobody.

Pause if the job grows

You approve one specific repair. If opening the appliance turns up a second problem, work stops until you've heard about it and decided.

Name the part going in

Parts are matched to the model and serial number. Manufacturer parts where they're available; when only an equivalent exists, you're told before it's fitted.

Be clear about what we aren't

No manufacturer has appointed us as its service agent; we work independently. Brand names on this site show what we repair and imply nothing more.

How the technician works in your home

A good repair visit is as much about communication as it is about tools. Here is what you should see from the moment the technician walks in.

The whole installation, not only the box

Plenty of failures start outside the appliance: a dryer vent that's crushed behind the machine, a dishwasher drain looped wrong under the sink, a fridge wedged into a cabinet with no room to breathe. Those get checked, because a new part won't last if the cause is still there.

Your home treated with care

Floors get covered before anything is moved. Water is shut off before a supply line comes loose, and gas before a gas connection is opened. Any gas fitting we disturb is leak-checked before we leave.

Explanations without the jargon

You'll hear what failed in words that make sense, and you're welcome to see the old part. If simple upkeep, like vacuuming a condenser coil or rinsing a pump filter, would prevent a repeat, we'll show you how.

Keeping you informed

If you rent, the owner or property manager can receive the diagnosis and the price, and the repair waits for their approval. Parts that need ordering are flagged at the diagnosis, with the expected wait, rather than after the technician has gone. And if the honest answer is that a new appliance makes more sense, we'll say it plainly.

From the first call to a working appliance

The order never changes. Below is each stage, with the questions we'll have for you at each one.

  1. 1

    Call or book online

Describe the problem and give us the appliance type and make. A phone photo of the model and serial label lets us look up likely parts before the visit.

  2. 2

Pick a time and cover the logistics

We agree on an appointment and note anything the technician should know: where to park, the building's elevator or loading-dock rules, a gate code, pets, and who approves the cost if it isn't you.

  3. 3

    Diagnosis where it's installed

The technician works through the appliance on site, along with the supplies it depends on, until the failed part is pinned down.

  4. 4

    The explanation and the quote

You get what broke, the likely reason, and one price for the repair. If it isn't worth fixing, you hear that here, too.

  5. 5

    Repair after your approval

Once you say yes, the technician installs the part and runs the appliance to confirm the fix. When a part needs ordering, we schedule the return trip before leaving.

Where we work, and why it matters

We keep to a deliberately small patch of Maryland: 4 areas and 11 ZIP codes in Montgomery and Prince George's counties. In Montgomery County that means Bethesda and Chevy Chase, Potomac, and Silver Spring along with Wheaton, Four Corners and Colesville. In Prince George's, it's College Park and Hyattsville.

The housing here shapes the work. Chevy Chase and older parts of Bethesda have houses from the early twentieth century with kitchens remodeled around them. Silver Spring and Wheaton have blocks of postwar Cape Cods and ramblers. Potomac homes often carry high-end built-ins and more than one laundry area, while the towers along Wisconsin Avenue and in downtown Silver Spring come with elevator reservations and compact stacked laundry. Humid summers add their own list: sweating refrigerators, musty front-loaders, garage freezers that can't keep up.
