Amana Repair in Houses, Townhomes and Condos

An Amana is usually bought because it is simple and affordable, and we repair it with that in mind. We are an independent company, not part of Amana's or Whirlpool's warranty service, so an appliance still covered by the maker should be reported to them first. Past that point, a technician diagnoses it where it stands and gives you a price. Since a new Amana doesn't cost a fortune, we put that price next to the cost of replacing it and say plainly which way we would lean.

Condos & high-rises
Many buildings want a loading-dock slot, an elevator booking or a sign-in at the desk. Mention those rules at booking so the visit fits them.
Stacked laundry
Washer-dryer stacks in closets and hall nooks often have to come out of the space to be worked on. Measurements or a photo help us prepare.
Older houses
A new appliance in a house built decades ago can be let down by the outlet, gas line, drain or vent behind it. We test the supply as well as the machine.
Tenants & owners
A renter can book the visit. We report the fault and the quote to the owner or property manager, whose approval comes before any repair.
Humid summers & garages
Sticky summer air makes fridges sweat and front-loader gaskets smell, and a garage fridge can struggle in the heat. Some of that is upkeep, not a failed part.
A straight answer
If fixing an older unit makes little sense, you will hear that from us, along with which part gave out.

How a Repair Visit Works

01

Book the Visit

Call or use the form. Name the make and describe the fault; a model number, if handy, speeds up parts.

02

Find the Fault

At your place, the technician checks the appliance and whatever feeds it (power, water, drain, gas or venting) until the cause is clear.

03

Approve the Price

You get a plain explanation and a price for the repair. The work starts only if you say yes.

04

Fix and Check

The new part is fitted and the appliance is run through a cycle, so you can see it working.

Amana

The Iowa name behind the first home microwave

Amana takes its name from the Amana Colonies in Iowa, where the business began in the 1930s making refrigeration equipment. Raytheon bought it in 1965 and in 1967 introduced the countertop Radarange, one of the earliest microwave ovens aimed at ordinary kitchens. The appliance line later went through Goodman and then Maytag, and it came to Whirlpool when Whirlpool bought Maytag in 2006.

Today Amana sits at the budget end of Whirlpool's brands. The Amana furnaces and air conditioners you may see on an HVAC truck are a separate business using the name, so a kitchen or laundry repair and a heating repair have nothing in common.

Rentals, first homes and quick replacements

Price is why Amana shows up where it does. Landlords fit it in garden apartments and older rental houses, and students in the rentals along Route 1 near the University of Maryland often have an Amana washer, stove or fridge that has seen several tenants. Homeowners grab one when an old machine dies the week before guests arrive. We also find Amana refrigerators working as second fridges in basements and garages.

For rental work, the useful thing is knowing who approves the cost. We explain the fault and send the number to the owner or property manager; the tenant just needs to open the door.

Few features, familiar parts

Amana's current fridges, washers, dryers, ranges and dishwashers are Whirlpool platforms, so the failures are well known and the parts are common. Many models still use dial controls instead of full electronic boards, which means fewer expensive parts to go wrong.

The math is the catch. A belt, a thermal fuse, a fill valve, an igniter or a switch is a clear case for repair. A refrigerant leak, a washer transmission or a main control on an older unit often costs more than a new Amana delivered, and we tell you that instead of selling you the repair.

Amana, product by product

  • Refrigerators: Top-freezer, bottom-freezer and side-by-side refrigerators on Whirlpool platforms. We usually replace defrost parts, evaporator fans, compressor start relays, ice makers and door gaskets.
  • Washers: Mostly top-load agitator washers with dial controls, plus a few front-loaders. Lid switches and locks, drain pumps, motor couplers, shifters and agitator dogs come up most often.
  • Dryers: Gas and electric 29-inch dryers on a long-running Whirlpool design. Thermal fuses, heating elements, igniters, gas valve coils, belts, idler pulleys and rollers are routine repairs.
  • Dishwashers: Entry-level built-in dishwashers with Whirlpool pumps and valves. Clogged filters, weak drain pumps, fill valves, door latches and stuck float switches cause most calls.
  • Ovens: The oven cavities of Amana gas and electric ranges. Glow-bar igniters, bake and broil elements, temperature sensors and self-clean door locks account for most repairs.
  • Microwaves: Over-the-range and countertop Amana microwaves. Door switches, high-voltage diodes and capacitors, magnetrons, turntable motors and vent fans are the usual repairs.
  • Freezers: The freezers in Amana refrigerators and the brand's upright and chest units. Start relays, defrost heaters, thermostats, gaskets and fan motors are the common failures.
  • Cooktops: The tops of Amana ranges, whether coil electric, radiant glass or gas. Burned coil receptacles, failed infinite switches, cold radiant zones and clicking igniters are typical.
  • Stoves: Basic freestanding gas and electric Amana stoves, a staple of rental kitchens. Coil receptacles, oven igniters, bake elements and surface burners that won't light are everyday fixes.
  • Ranges: Freestanding Amana ranges with self-clean or electronic controls. Temperature sensors, touchpads, control relays, igniters, elements and stuck door locks lead the list.

Getting Amana parts

Because Whirlpool builds current Amana appliances, the parts come through Whirlpool's distribution and are frequently the same numbers used in Whirlpool and Maytag models. Everyday wear items are rarely hard to find. Models from before the Whirlpool era, or ones with an Amana-specific board, can be harder. We check your model number, confirm what is available and weigh the repair against a replacement before quoting.

FAQ

Amana Repair Questions

The questions that come up most often. Anything not covered here, ask us when you call, or add it to the booking form's notes field.

Have a different question?

Tell us what make it is and what's going wrong. A few things can be settled over the phone, and anything else gets looked at during the visit.

Whirlpool Corporation. The Amana appliance business passed from Raytheon to Goodman and then to Maytag, and Whirlpool acquired Maytag in 2006. So a new Amana is a Whirlpool design underneath, and its parts come from the same catalog.

No. Amana heating and cooling equipment comes from a separate company that uses the name, and we only work on kitchen and laundry appliances. For a furnace or AC, you'll need an HVAC contractor.

A single inexpensive part on an otherwise healthy machine, such as a belt, fuse, valve, igniter, switch or pump. When the fault is the compressor, a transmission or the main board on an older unit, a new basic machine is often the better buy. You see both numbers before choosing.

Yes. Tell us who owns the unit and who approves repairs. We diagnose it with you there to give access, and the quote goes to the person paying, who approves it before we start.
