Wisconsin roots, Pentair ownership
Manitowoc Ice is named for Manitowoc, Wisconsin, where it started. It spent years inside Welbilt, and in July 2022 the water-treatment company Pentair bought it from Welbilt, a sale that came as Italy's Ali Group was taking over Welbilt itself. The machines still carry the Manitowoc name.
The current range includes Indigo NXT modular cubers that sit on a bin or dispenser, NEO undercounter machines, QuietQube systems that move the compressor and condenser outdoors, and flake and nugget ice machines. We see them in bars and restaurants in Bethesda and Silver Spring, in hotel and club kitchens, in cafés near the University of Maryland, and in institutional kitchens.
Sensors, scale and the cleaning cycle
Manitowoc cubers are run by sensors: a probe that judges when the ice slab is thick enough to harvest, a probe that manages the water level in the trough, and, depending on the model, a bin sensor or a swinging water curtain that tells the machine when the bin is full. Mineral scale and biofilm on those sensors, on the evaporator and on the water distribution tube throw off their readings, which is behind a large share of slow production and failed harvests.
Every Manitowoc cuber has a cleaning routine built into its control, and running it on schedule with Manitowoc-approved chemicals, changing water filters and keeping the condenser clean prevents many service calls. Some models can be fitted with LuminIce, which uses UV light to limit growth in the food zone; it helps but doesn't replace cleaning.
Working around your hours
When you book, tell us your opening hours and your busiest times, and if you have backup ice or a supplier who can deliver bagged ice. If a part has to be ordered, you'll know the expected wait and whether the machine can keep producing in the meantime.

Run the cleaning cycle with the approved chemicals, replace the water filter if it's due, and clean the condenser if the machine is air-cooled. A room that's gotten hotter will also cut production. If output stays low after that, we check the probes, water pump, water valve and refrigeration side.
Yes. A QuietQube system is diagnosed as a whole: the ice machine head inside, the remote condensing unit outside, the refrigerant lines between them, the condenser fan and the controls. Tell us how the roof or outdoor unit is accessed when you book.
