How Maytag builds its refrigerators
A Maytag refrigerator made since the merger is a Whirlpool-platform box, whether it is a French-door, a side-by-side or a basic top-freezer, and many carry a PowerCold button that simply drives the compressor and fans harder for a while. Most repair calls fall into two groups. The first is ice and water: an ice maker that stops making ice, a fill valve that drips behind the unit, or a dispenser that ignores the paddle. The second is airflow. When the defrost heater or its thermostat fails, the evaporator coil gradually ices over, and the fresh-food side warms up while the freezer still feels cold. A fan with worn bearings will squeal first and then stop. In humid summers, a door left ajar or a torn gasket lets in enough moisture to speed up that icing. Sealed-system failures are less common and are the repair we price most carefully against replacement.
