What's inside an Avanti range
Avanti's narrow ranges exist because some kitchens cannot take a standard 30-inch unit, and the 20- and 24-inch models are built much alike. On the gas side, the cooktop uses sealed burners fired by a spark module, the oven burner relies on a glow-bar igniter, and certain models tuck a broiler drawer underneath. Electric versions put coil or smooth-top elements over a bake and broil oven. The controls are usually old-fashioned: a knob-driven oven thermostat and simple burner switches instead of a keypad. That helps the repair along, since most faults turn out to be a single part that fails a meter test. The thing to watch is the body itself. Rust through the oven floor or liner is not a repair worth making.
