Avanti Repair in Houses, Townhomes and Condos
An Avanti usually lives somewhere a full-size appliance would not fit, and when it quits there is rarely a spare. We repair Avanti equipment as an independent company. We are not part of Avanti's own service arrangements, so a unit that is still inside the maker's warranty should be reported to Avanti before anyone else opens it. Past that point, we test it where it sits, tell you what broke and what the fix involves, and nothing gets replaced until you have seen the price and said yes. On a small, inexpensive unit, some failures cost more to fix than the appliance is worth, and we will say that out loud rather than sell you the repair.
How a Repair Visit Works
Book the Visit
Call or use the form. Name the make and describe the fault; a model number, if handy, speeds up parts.
Find the Fault
At your place, the technician checks the appliance and whatever feeds it (power, water, drain, gas or venting) until the cause is clear.
Approve the Price
You get a plain explanation and a price for the repair. The work starts only if you say yes.
Fix and Check
The new part is fitted and the appliance is run through a cycle, so you can see it working.

A compact-appliance specialist from South Florida
Avanti Products dates back to the early 1970s and has always concentrated on small formats: refrigerators under counters, narrow ranges, beverage centers, water dispensers and apartment laundry. In 2019 it was acquired by The Legacy Companies, which also owns the Maxx Ice commercial ice machine brand. The business is based in South Florida.
Avanti designs its models and sources much of the production from contract factories. For a repair, that has one practical consequence: two units with nearly the same model number can carry different thermostats, relays or control boards from one production run to the next. The serial number settles it, so we read the whole data tag before we look up anything.
Where these units live around here
The typical Avanti call comes from a spot with limited room or a second job to do. Studio and one-bedroom condos in downtown Bethesda and Silver Spring towers sometimes use a 24-inch range or an under-counter fridge. Group houses and student apartments near the University of Maryland run on dorm fridges and microwaves that get handed down from one lease to the next. Finished basements in Silver Spring and Wheaton ramblers get a bar fridge, a wine cooler or a chest freezer beside the furnace.
Those spots are not always kind to refrigeration. A chest freezer in a garage bakes through a humid Maryland July and then sits in a cold room in January, and a beverage cooler boxed into cabinetry with no gap for air runs hot all summer. The manual lists the room conditions and clearances each model expects, and we check the location against it before we condemn a part.
Weighing a repair on a small appliance
Because a new compact unit costs less than a big built-in, the repair has to be modest to make sense. A thermostat, gasket, fan, igniter, relay or drain pump usually is. Sealed-system trouble on a mini fridge, meaning a refrigerant leak or a compressor that has quit, usually is not, and a portable washer with a cracked tub is a replacement.
Narrow ranges and 24-inch refrigerators are a different conversation. Finding a new one that fits the same opening, gas connection and cabinet cutout can be awkward, so fixing the one already in place often wins even on an older unit. We lay out both paths and let you choose.
Avanti, product by product
- Refrigerators: Mini and dorm fridges, under-counter beverage units and 24-inch apartment refrigerators, several of them manual defrost. Thermostats, start relays, fans and worn door gaskets are the usual repairs.
- Washers: Portable washers that connect to a sink faucet and compact front-load machines sized for a closet. We replace drain pumps, lid switches, faucet adapters, inlet valves and belts.
- Dryers: Compact dryers built to stack on Avanti's matching washer. No heat, long dry times from a pinched vent, noisy drums and door switch faults make up most visits.
- Ovens: The oven cavity on Avanti apartment ranges and its small electric wall ovens. Weak gas igniters, burned bake elements, drifting thermostats and loose door seals come up most.
- Microwaves: Countertop and compact microwaves for offices, dorm rooms and small kitchens. No heat, a unit that went dark after a fuse blew, sparking inside and a turntable that stopped.
- Freezers: Chest freezers and compact uprights for basements, garages and small kitchens. Temperature control, compressor starting parts, lid gaskets and heavy frost are the common complaints.
- Cooktops: Two- and four-burner gas and electric cooktops for narrow counters. We handle spark ignition, coil sockets, radiant elements and the infinite switches behind the knobs.
- Wine Coolers: Freestanding and built-in wine and beverage coolers of both cooling types. We see cabinets that won't stay cool, failed fans, bad sensors, dead displays and foggy glass doors.
- Stoves: The Avanti stove in a rental or in-law unit that gets used every day: stripped knobs, burners that click without catching, and an oven that is slow to come up to heat.
- Ranges: Gas and electric ranges in 20- and 24-inch widths. Oven igniters, top burner spark parts, bake and broil elements and mechanical oven thermostats are the regular repairs.
Getting Avanti parts
Avanti runs its own parts department, and routine items such as thermostats, gaskets, elements, knobs and shelves are listed for many models. Because suppliers change between production runs, the part must match the full model and serial number, not just the model family. Some older or short-run units have parts that are no longer available at all. We check before we quote, tell you when an equivalent part is the only option, and say so plainly when nothing suitable exists.

Avanti Repair Questions
The questions that come up most often. Anything not covered here, ask us when you call, or add it to the booking form's notes field.
Have a different question?
Tell us what make it is and what's going wrong. A few things can be settled over the phone, and anything else gets looked at during the visit.
Parts that sit outside the sealed refrigeration system are usually fair game: thermostats, relays, fans, gaskets, igniters, elements, pumps and switches. A leaking evaporator or a dead compressor on a small fridge or freezer normally is not worth it. We tell you which group your fault falls into before you pay for anything beyond the diagnosis.
Whoever is responsible for the appliance, usually the owner or property manager. A tenant can let us in and show us the problem, but the quote goes to the person paying, and nothing is replaced until they agree to it.
A photo of the data tag helps us research the model ahead of time, but it rarely pins down the failed part on its own. Most Avanti faults have two or three possible causes that look the same from the outside, so we test on site before ordering.
