Admiral Repair in Houses, Townhomes and Condos

An Admiral is a budget appliance with a big company's parts behind it, and that combination usually makes it worth fixing. We work on Admiral independently and are not part of Whirlpool's service organization, so a machine still inside its original warranty belongs with Whirlpool first. Out of warranty, we diagnose it at the property, name the failed part, and give a price that you approve before anything is replaced. When the numbers don't favor repair on a low-cost machine, we say so.

Condos & high-rises
Many buildings want a loading-dock slot, an elevator booking or a sign-in at the desk. Mention those rules at booking so the visit fits them.
Stacked laundry
Washer-dryer stacks in closets and hall nooks often have to come out of the space to be worked on. Measurements or a photo help us prepare.
Older houses
A new appliance in a house built decades ago can be let down by the outlet, gas line, drain or vent behind it. We test the supply as well as the machine.
Tenants & owners
A renter can book the visit. We report the fault and the quote to the owner or property manager, whose approval comes before any repair.
Humid summers & garages
Sticky summer air makes fridges sweat and front-loader gaskets smell, and a garage fridge can struggle in the heat. Some of that is upkeep, not a failed part.
A straight answer
If fixing an older unit makes little sense, you will hear that from us, along with which part gave out.

How a Repair Visit Works

01

Book the Visit

Call or use the form. Name the make and describe the fault; a model number, if handy, speeds up parts.

02

Find the Fault

At your place, the technician checks the appliance and whatever feeds it (power, water, drain, gas or venting) until the cause is clear.

03

Approve the Price

You get a plain explanation and a price for the repair. The work starts only if you say yes.

04

Fix and Check

The new part is fitted and the appliance is run through a cycle, so you can see it working.

Admiral

From a Chicago radio maker to a Whirlpool value line

Admiral began in Chicago in the 1930s as a radio and television company and moved into refrigerators and other appliances after the war. The appliance business passed to Magic Chef, then to Maytag in 1986, and came to Whirlpool with its purchase of Maytag in 2006. Since then the Admiral name has been sold as a store exclusive through The Home Depot.

Current Admiral machines are pared-down relatives of Whirlpool and Maytag models: fewer cycle choices and simpler panels, on the same cabinets, drives and wiring. For us that means familiar layouts and parts that are easy to find.

Rentals, garden apartments and the extra fridge

Admiral gets chosen when the budget is tight, so we meet it in landlord-owned houses along the Route 1 corridor near the University of Maryland, in garden-apartment units, in townhouse rentals, and as the second refrigerator in a Silver Spring basement or garage. In a shared rental, tell us whether the tenant or the owner is arranging the visit and who approves the quote.

In older houses the laundry pair often sits in an unfinished basement, draining into a laundry sink or a standpipe that predates the machine. That setup causes its share of what looks like washer trouble.

Where the repair line falls

Because an Admiral is inexpensive to buy, any repair has to hold up against the price of a new one. Thermal fuses, belts, igniters, lid locks and drain pumps nearly always clear that bar. A sealed-system leak in an old top-freezer or a worn transmission in an aging washer often doesn't, and we will tell you that once the diagnosis is done rather than after the parts are ordered.

Admiral, product by product

  • Refrigerators: Largely top-freezer models cooled by one coil behind the freezer wall, with simple dial controls. Typical work: defrost components, the two fans, compressor start parts and door seals.
  • Washers: Top-load Admiral washers, older agitator models with a direct-drive motor and newer low-water impeller models. Lid locks, pumps, couplers, shift actuators and suspension rods are frequent repairs.
  • Dryers: Admiral gas and electric dryers on Whirlpool's 29-inch cabinet. Most jobs are fuses, elements, gas coils, belts, pulleys and drum rollers.
  • Dishwashers: Entry-level Admiral built-ins that share their tub and pump with Whirlpool models. Manual filters, drain pumps, latch switches, inlet valves and heating elements are the common calls.
  • Ovens: The oven cavity of an Admiral range, gas or electric. Worn igniters, burned-out elements, drifting temperature probes and tired door hinges make up most of the list.
  • Microwaves: Countertop and over-the-range Admiral microwaves. Worn door switches, blown fuses, failed high-voltage parts, stalled plate motors and noisy hood fans account for the calls.
  • Freezers: Admiral chest and upright freezers, often tucked into garages, basements and utility rooms. Compressor start parts, thermostats, lid seals and heavy frost are the typical complaints.
  • Cooktops: Admiral range tops with plug-in coils, a glass smoothtop or gas burners. We mostly replace scorched receptacles, burner control switches, glass-top elements and igniters.
  • Stoves: The Admiral stove as people describe it on the phone: a burner that won't come on, an oven slow to heat, a knob that spins or a panel that won't respond.
  • Ranges: Freestanding 30-inch Admiral ranges in gas and electric with a storage drawer below. Scorched power connections, weak igniters, board relays and heating elements are the usual fixes, plus missing tip brackets.

Getting Admiral parts

An Admiral part number is a Whirlpool part number, and the same parts warehouses that stock Whirlpool, Maytag and Amana stock Admiral, so routine items are rarely a problem. Some trim pieces and older control boards have been discontinued. We identify the exact part from the model and serial number at the visit, fit the Whirlpool part where one exists, and tell you when an equivalent is being used instead.

FAQ

Admiral Repair Questions

The questions that come up most often. Anything not covered here, ask us when you call, or add it to the booking form's notes field.

Have a different question?

Tell us what make it is and what's going wrong. A few things can be settled over the phone, and anything else gets looked at during the visit.

Often, because many Admiral machines are built on the same platforms and use Whirlpool part numbers. The model and serial number on your machine decide which part actually fits, so we look it up rather than assume.

Washers usually have it under the lid or on the back of the console; dryers inside the door opening; refrigerators on the wall of the fresh-food section; ranges on the frame behind the storage drawer or around the oven door opening. A clear phone photo of the label is ideal when you book.

Yes. Give us the unit address, the tenant's contact details and who approves the quote. The technician explains the diagnosis to whoever is present, and the price goes to the person you name for approval before any work starts.
