Insignia Repair in Houses, Townhomes and Condos
Insignia is Best Buy's house brand, and the appliances that carry it are built for Best Buy by outside manufacturers. We are not connected to Best Buy. If the appliance is still under its warranty or a Geek Squad protection plan, start with Best Buy or the plan provider. Once that's done, we come to you, find what failed, confirm a part actually exists for your model, and give you a price, including an honest word when a new unit makes more sense.
How a Repair Visit Works
Book the Visit
Call or use the form. Name the make and describe the fault; a model number, if handy, speeds up parts.
Find the Fault
At your place, the technician checks the appliance and whatever feeds it (power, water, drain, gas or venting) until the cause is clear.
Approve the Price
You get a plain explanation and a price for the repair. The work starts only if you say yes.
Fix and Check
The new part is fitted and the appliance is run through a cycle, so you can see it working.

A store label, not a factory
Best Buy doesn't make appliances. Insignia products are produced by contract manufacturers, and Best Buy doesn't publish which one built a given model. Two Insignia fridges that look alike on the sales floor can come from different factories with different parts inside.
That is why the model number matters more than the name on the door. Insignia models start with NS-, and that full number is what lets us match parts, where they are available.
Where they end up
Compact Insignia refrigerators are a common sight in College Park student rentals and dorm rooms, and in home offices and finished basements everywhere. Chest freezers get bought for overflow storage in a basement or garage, and beverage coolers land under a home bar.
Garages here swing from hot, humid summers to freezing winter nights. A freezer that stops keeping up in July or stops running in January may be reacting to the room, so check the operating range printed in the manual before assuming it has failed.
Deciding if it's worth it
Parts for store-brand appliances are thinner than for the major makers. Door gaskets, thermostats, fans and some controls are often findable; sealed-system parts and certain boards may not be.
On a compact unit, the repair also has to beat the price of a new one. If it doesn't, you'll hear that from us plainly, before any money is spent.
Insignia, product by product
- Refrigerators: Compact refrigerators plus top-freezer and bottom-freezer full-size models. Thermostats, start relays, fans, defrost parts and door gaskets are the typical repairs.
- Microwaves: Mostly countertop microwaves. Door switches and blown fuses, magnetrons, high-voltage diodes, turntable motors and touchpads account for most calls.
- Freezers: Chest and upright freezers, often in basements and garages. Thermostats, start relays, lid and door gaskets, and defrost parts on frost-free uprights fail most.
- Wine Coolers: Thermoelectric and compressor wine and beverage coolers. Peltier modules, small fans, thermostats and sensors, door seals and control boards are the usual failures.
Getting Insignia parts
Insignia parts are listed by some suppliers under the NS- model number, and some can be found in the catalog of the factory that actually built the unit, under that factory's part numbers. How much exists varies a lot from model to model. Gaskets, thermostats and small fans turn up most often. Compressors, sealed-system components and control boards may be impossible to source. You find out what's obtainable before you're asked to approve anything, and if a part would be a non-original equivalent, we tell you.

Insignia Repair Questions
The questions that come up most often. Anything not covered here, ask us when you call, or add it to the booking form's notes field.
Have a different question?
Tell us what make it is and what's going wrong. A few things can be settled over the phone, and anything else gets looked at during the visit.
Best Buy uses contract manufacturers and doesn't publish which one made each model, and it can change between models and years. The NS- model number on the label is what we use to find matching parts.
When the fault is a thermostat, fan, gasket or start relay and the part is available. A refrigerant leak or failed compressor on a compact unit usually isn't worth chasing. You'll know which case you're in before spending anything.
Not yet. Repairs under the plan go through Best Buy's own process. Once the plan has run out, we're glad to help.
