DCS Repair in Houses, Townhomes and Condos

DCS began as a California maker of heavy gas cooking for homes and patios and is now a Fisher & Paykel brand, itself owned by Haier. We are unconnected to either company and are not a DCS service center. Anything still covered by the manufacturer's warranty should be taken to Fisher & Paykel first. For older units and anything past coverage, we come out, diagnose the range, oven or outdoor refrigerator where it's installed, and quote the repair before touching it.

Condos & high-rises
Many buildings want a loading-dock slot, an elevator booking or a sign-in at the desk. Mention those rules at booking so the visit fits them.
Stacked laundry
Washer-dryer stacks in closets and hall nooks often have to come out of the space to be worked on. Measurements or a photo help us prepare.
Older houses
A new appliance in a house built decades ago can be let down by the outlet, gas line, drain or vent behind it. We test the supply as well as the machine.
Tenants & owners
A renter can book the visit. We report the fault and the quote to the owner or property manager, whose approval comes before any repair.
Humid summers & garages
Sticky summer air makes fridges sweat and front-loader gaskets smell, and a garage fridge can struggle in the heat. Some of that is upkeep, not a failed part.
A straight answer
If fixing an older unit makes little sense, you will hear that from us, along with which part gave out.

How a Repair Visit Works

01

Book the Visit

Call or use the form. Name the make and describe the fault; a model number, if handy, speeds up parts.

02

Find the Fault

At your place, the technician checks the appliance and whatever feeds it (power, water, drain, gas or venting) until the cause is clear.

03

Approve the Price

You get a plain explanation and a price for the repair. The work starts only if you say yes.

04

Fix and Check

The new part is fitted and the appliance is run through a cycle, so you can see it working.

DCS

Huntington Beach to Auckland to Qingdao

Dynamic Cooking Systems was founded in 1989 in Huntington Beach, California, and made its name with commercial-looking drop-in cooktops, pro-style ranges and premium outdoor grills. Fisher & Paykel of New Zealand bought the company in 2004, and Haier bought Fisher & Paykel in 2012.

Fisher & Paykel later reserved the DCS name for outdoor cooking and refrigeration. Its indoor pro-style ranges now carry the Fisher & Paykel name, so any indoor range, rangetop or wall oven badged DCS is older equipment, often from the 2000s.

DCS in local kitchens and back yards

Pro-style gas cooking tended to arrive with a full kitchen overhaul. In this area that means the big Potomac kitchens of the late 1990s and 2000s, and remodels and rebuilds in Bethesda and Chevy Chase where the gas line was upsized for a serious range. Twenty-odd years of daily cooking later, the wear shows up in predictable places: ignition parts, burner valves, oven door hinges and seals.

Outdoor DCS refrigerators sit in grill islands on patios and decks, mostly on larger lots. They face humid summers, pollen, freeze-thaw winters and months under a cover, so an outdoor visit always starts with what the off-season left behind.

Reignition, hot-surface igniters and heavy doors

The surface burners on a DCS light from a spark, and on many models the same system watches over them afterward. If a gust or a boil-over puts a flame out, the module notices, because it reads the flame through that burner's electrode, and it sparks again until the burner relights. The downside is that anything interfering with that reading, like water on the electrode, a hairline crack in its porcelain, a cap sitting askew or a layer of grease, can keep the spark going indefinitely. Those cheap, simple causes get ruled out before anyone talks about a new module.

DCS gas ovens light with a hot-surface igniter that has to pass a certain current before the oven valve will open, and many DCS ranges broil with a separate infrared burner at the top of the cavity. The electric ovens in dual-fuel models use elements, a convection fan and a sensor instead. The doors are heavy, so worn hinges and scorched gaskets appear on older units.

Why most DCS repairs make sense

Taking out a built-in 48-inch range usually means new gas work and often changes to the counter or backsplash, so on a DCS the repair is typically the better deal whenever the part can still be found. Fisher & Paykel still supplies most common parts. If the original part is gone, we name the substitute and explain it before it goes in.

DCS, product by product

  • Refrigerators: Outdoor-rated DCS refrigerators and refrigerated drawers set into grill islands, and the occasional older indoor model. Dirty condensers, worn door seals, stopped fans and control faults drive most calls.
  • Ovens: DCS wall ovens, single or double, and the ovens under DCS rangetops and ranges, gas or electric. Igniters, broil burners, convection fans and sensors fail first, along with door hinges.
  • Cooktops: DCS rangetops and drop-in gas cooktops, some with a grill or griddle section. We mostly deal with spark electrodes, knob switches, spark modules, valves and burner caps.
  • Stoves: When a DCS owner says stove, they nearly always mean the freestanding pro range. Ignition that clicks without catching, a slow oven and a leaking door seal are what we hear about.
  • Ranges: Pro-style all-gas and dual-fuel DCS ranges from 30 to 48 inches wide. Endless sparking, weak oven igniters, temperature control faults and sagging doors are the common findings.

Getting DCS parts

Parts for DCS come through Fisher & Paykel's parts operation and the distributors who carry its components. Ignition parts, knobs, caps and door seals remain fairly easy to find. Older control boards and trim pieces may take longer or have been replaced by newer numbers. Each part is identified from the rating plate's model and serial number, and if what arrives is an equivalent rather than the original, you'll know.

DCS Repair Questions

Yes. Fisher & Paykel moved the DCS name to outdoor products, but it continues to supply many parts for the older indoor ranges, rangetops and ovens. Availability depends on the specific model, which we check before quoting.

Follow the winterizing steps in your model's manual, which also list its operating temperature range. Many owners empty it, unplug it, leave the door slightly open to prevent odor and cover it. If it doesn't cool properly when restarted in spring, that's the time to have it checked.

Fisher & Paykel. If your DCS product is still under warranty, start with them. We are independent and take over after coverage ends, or for older units whose owners want an outside repair.
