Scotsman Repair in Houses, Townhomes and Condos
The first thing to establish on any Scotsman call is the machine type, since a cube maker and an auger machine have very few wear parts in common. We service both as an independent company. We are not part of Scotsman's authorized service network, so a machine still under the manufacturer's warranty should be claimed through Scotsman or the dealer first. Otherwise, we diagnose it on site, tell you what failed and if it's safe to keep making ice in the meantime, and quote the repair for your approval.
How a Repair Visit Works
Book the Visit
Call or use the form. Name the make and describe the fault; a model number, if handy, speeds up parts.
Find the Fault
At your place, the technician checks the appliance and whatever feeds it (power, water, drain, gas or venting) until the cause is clear.
Approve the Price
You get a plain explanation and a price for the repair. The work starts only if you say yes.
Fix and Check
The new part is fitted and the appliance is run through a cycle, so you can see it working.

Scotsman Appliances We Repair
Who builds Scotsman
Scotsman is headquartered in Vernon Hills, Illinois, and belongs to Italy's Ali Group, a large foodservice equipment company that also owns Ice-O-Matic among many other brands. Much of its equipment is built at a plant in Fairfax, South Carolina.
Its lineup splits in two. Prodigy cube machines, including the current Prodigy ELITE series, freeze water on an evaporator plate and release the cubes in a harvest cycle. Nugget and flake machines run continuously: an auger turns inside a refrigerated cylinder, scrapes ice off the wall and pushes it out the top. For nugget ice, the ice is then squeezed through a head into the soft, chewable pieces customers ask for.
Where we find them
Cubers sit behind bars and in restaurant kitchens along Bethesda's and Silver Spring's busier streets, and in the bars and eateries near the University of Maryland in College Park. Nugget machines are common in cafés, smoothie and drink shops, office pantries and healthcare settings, where chewable ice is the draw.
Summer is the hardest season on all of them. A machine with an air-cooled condenser in a hot, greasy kitchen or a cramped back room rejects heat into warm air, production falls and the compressor runs long. Clean condensers and room to breathe matter as much as any part.
Keeping downtime short
Most businesses can't go long without ice, so we try to schedule work around service. Opening an auger machine's evaporator to replace bearings or a seal is a multi-hour job, and having bagged ice on hand that day is wise.
At the end of the visit you'll know if the failure was normal wear or the kind of thing that more frequent cleaning and descaling heads off, which helps you set a realistic maintenance routine.
Scotsman, product by product
- Ice Makers: Prodigy and Prodigy ELITE modular and undercounter cubers, plus auger-driven nugget and flake machines. Bearing noise, gearmotor overloads, auger seal leaks, scaled evaporators and slow or stalled harvests.
Getting Scotsman parts
Commercial foodservice parts distributors carry Scotsman parts. On auger machines, the parts that wear (bearings, the bottom seal, the gearmotor) are normally easy to find, as are pumps, sensors and harvest parts for cubers. Evaporators and controls are specific to each model and serial range, and on older nugget and flake models some part numbers have been replaced by newer ones. While we're there, we check who has the part in stock and tell you if the machine is safe to run until it comes.

Scotsman Repair Questions
The questions that come up most often. Anything not covered here, ask us when you call, or add it to the booking form's notes field.
Have a different question?
Tell us what make it is and what's going wrong. A few things can be settled over the phone, and anything else gets looked at during the visit.
A squeal or grind usually means the auger bearings are wearing, or scale on the freezing cylinder is making the auger work harder with every turn. Weeks of running it that way tends to take the auger and gearmotor down too, so it's worth having it looked at soon.
They are the machine's status indicators, signaling things like when it's time to descale or sanitize, and on some models whether the bin is full. The exact meanings vary by model, so check your manual. If a light points to a fault that cleaning doesn't clear, we diagnose it.
Generally not. The two brands have the same corporate parent, yet their machines are engineered separately. Parts are ordered against the data plate on your Scotsman.
