Ice-O-Matic Repair in Houses, Townhomes and Condos
An ice machine that slows down in the middle of a Saturday is a business problem, not just a broken appliance. We repair Ice-O-Matic equipment as an independent company; we are not affiliated with Ice-O-Matic or its parent, Ali Group. A machine that is still under the factory warranty should be reported through Ice-O-Matic's own service route. Once it is out of coverage, we diagnose it where it's installed and give you a repair price to approve.
How a Repair Visit Works
Book the Visit
Call or use the form. Name the make and describe the fault; a model number, if handy, speeds up parts.
Find the Fault
At your place, the technician checks the appliance and whatever feeds it (power, water, drain, gas or venting) until the cause is clear.
Approve the Price
You get a plain explanation and a price for the repair. The work starts only if you say yes.
Fix and Check
The new part is fitted and the appliance is run through a cycle, so you can see it working.

Ice-O-Matic Appliances We Repair
A Denver maker inside an Italian group
Ice-O-Matic has built ice machines in Denver, Colorado for decades. After passing through several owners, it was bought in 2012 by Ali Group, the large Italian foodservice equipment company that also owns Scotsman. The catalog runs from undercounter and modular cube machines to Pearl Ice, the company's chewable nugget ice, plus flake machines, storage bins and dispensers.
Locally, you find Ice-O-Matic behind restaurant bars on Bethesda's busier blocks, in coffee shops and carryouts in Silver Spring, and in the back kitchens of offices, schools and assisted-living buildings. A surprising number live in a basement storeroom or a closet under the stairs, and the room itself often explains the service call.
What slows the ice down
Water is the root of most trouble. Minerals in the supply leave a crust on the evaporator and on the probe that decides when a batch is ready, and bacteria form a slick film in the trough and the tubing that feeds water across the plate. Neither stops the machine at first. You just notice smaller, cloudier or ragged cubes, a bin that fills slower each week, and eventually a machine that stops on a safety.
Air is the second factor. An air-cooled machine throws its heat into the room, and in July a small, unventilated storeroom can get hot enough that production falls sharply. Filters changed on schedule, cleaning and sanitizing with the chemicals Ice-O-Matic specifies, and room to breathe around the condenser do more for uptime than any repair.
Keeping service going
For a short outage, a few bags of ice from a supplier will carry most places. Let us know your opening hours when you schedule, and we'll try to arrive at a quiet time if the problem allows. Some visits end with a descale and a restart the same trip; if the machine needs a part, you'll know how long it should take before you approve anything.
Ice-O-Matic, product by product
- Ice Makers: Undercounter and modular cube machines, Pearl Ice nugget units and flakers. Mineral scale, tired water pumps, fouled thickness probes, fill and level faults, bin sensors and worn gear motors are what we fix most.
Getting Ice-O-Matic parts
Ice-O-Matic sells parts through its own distributor network, and commercial refrigeration supply houses carry the common ones. Pumps, probes, float and level sensors, inlet valves and gear motors are everyday items. Each part is matched to the serial plate on your machine, and if what we install is a compatible substitute rather than the original, we say so.

Ice-O-Matic Repair Questions
The questions that come up most often. Anything not covered here, ask us when you call, or add it to the booking form's notes field.
Have a different question?
Tell us what make it is and what's going wrong. A few things can be settled over the phone, and anything else gets looked at during the visit.
The machine is starved for water or its plate is fouled. A clogged filter, scale on the evaporator, or slime in the distribution tube all cut the flow. A proper cleaning and a new filter fix many cases; if not, the pump, the fill valve and the thickness probe are next on the list.
Nugget ice is made differently from cubes: an auger scrapes ice from the inside wall of a chilled cylinder and pushes it out through a head. The wear points are the gear motor that drives the auger, the auger bearings and seals, and scale inside the cylinder. A grinding noise or a machine that trips off under load points there.
A lot. Air-cooled machines need cool air across the condenser, and a warm, closed room cuts output noticeably. Keep the clearances the installation manual calls for and don't stack boxes against the vents. If the room can't be cooled, a different condenser setup may be worth discussing with your equipment dealer.
