Dryer repair in Cheverly & Capitol Heights
A basement dryer under a Cheverly or Capitol Heights house usually vents straight out through the foundation, with the hood a few inches above the soil. That short run should work well, but leaves, mulch and snow drift against the hood. Townhouse dryers on an upper floor face the opposite problem: the duct may travel through joists or up to the roof. Gas and electric dryers both turn up here, since many older houses have a gas line already in the basement.
Airflow first, then the heat source
A dryer that takes two cycles is almost always a dryer that can't exhale. We check the draft at the outside hood with the machine running, then disconnect the transition hose behind the cabinet and look for crushed foil or a lint plug. Only when air moves freely do we test the heat circuit. On an electric model that means the element's resistance, the high-limit and cycling thermostats, and the thermal fuse, which blows when the dryer overheats behind a blocked vent. On a gas model we watch the igniter glow, then confirm the valve coils open and the flame sensor drops out once the flame is lit.
A hood at ground level
On houses where the vent leaves the basement just above grade, the hood flap can stick open under leaves or stuck shut under snow. Take a quick look at it a few times a season, and keep plantings back from it. If the dryer runs but the clothes stay damp, check whether the flap lifts while the dryer is on before booking. That simple look tells us a lot.

It might be, but several parts in the same circuit cause the same symptom. A blown thermal fuse, an open high-limit thermostat, a failed cycling thermostat or a burned element all leave the drum cold while the motor runs. Many dryers also need both legs of the 240-volt supply to heat, so a tripped half of the breaker is checked too.
