Stove repair in Kensington
The freestanding stove is still the standard in many Kensington kitchens, particularly in the brick ramblers and Cape Cods built after the war. It usually stands against an outside wall with a gas line coming up from the basement, or a 240-volt outlet behind it on an electric model. These stoves are straightforward machines, but the burners, igniters and controls on top see daily use and wear first.
Burner by burner: finding the stove fault
We test each burner rather than the stove as a whole. On gas, a burner that will not light gets its cap seated and ports cleared, then the igniter and its wire checked for a spark; if all the igniters click together without lighting, the spark module or a stuck switch is next. On electric coil stoves, we swap a dead element into a working socket to tell whether the element or the receptacle and infinite switch has failed. Smooth-top electric stoves get the radiant element and its limiter tested for continuity. Then we move to the oven below, which shares wiring and controls with the top.
Gas connectors and anti-tip brackets
When a freestanding stove comes out from the wall, we look at the flexible gas connector and the anti-tip bracket. Older kitchens often lack a bracket, and on stoves installed decades ago the connector may be an obsolete type that should be replaced. A bracket costs little and keeps a stove from tipping if someone leans on an open oven door.

Tell us what make it is and what's going wrong. A few things can be settled over the phone, and anything else gets looked at during the visit.
On most gas stoves a single spark module fires all the igniters together whenever any knob is turned to light, so clicking at every burner is normal. Clicking that continues after the flame lights, or starts without a knob being turned, points to moisture in a switch or a failing module.

Find the Fault
At your place, the technician checks the appliance and whatever feeds it (power, water, drain, gas or venting) until the cause is clear.
Approve the Price
You get a plain explanation and a price for the repair. The work starts only if you say yes.
Fix and Check
The new part is fitted and the appliance is run through a cycle, so you can see it working.
