Repairs in Colesville & Fairland

20904 is the northeastern corner of Silver Spring. It covers most of Colesville, the Montgomery County side of Calverton, much of Fairland and part of White Oak, where the FDA's headquarters sits on the former Naval Ordnance Laboratory grounds. Colesville Road, New Hampshire Avenue and Randolph Road carry most of the traffic.

All of it is unincorporated. Colesville, Calverton, Fairland and White Oak are census-designated places, not towns, so Montgomery County provides local services and the mail says Silver Spring.

The housing is more varied than in the older parts of Silver Spring. Colesville is mostly detached houses on quiet residential streets, a lot of Fairland was built between the 1970s and the 1990s, and townhouse communities and garden-apartment complexes fill in between, many of them run by an HOA or a management company.

Townhouse laundry closets

In many 20904 townhouses the washer and dryer sit in a closet on the bedroom level or off the kitchen, with little room behind them. Before a visit, clear the space in front and, if you can, pull the machines out enough to reach the hoses. If your HOA has parking rules for work vehicles, let us know which spot to use.

Upstairs washers and slow leaks

A washer on an upper floor turns a small leak into a ceiling repair. Fill hoses crack with age, a front-loader's door boot can split, and a drain hose shoved deep into its standpipe can siphon water back out. Look behind the machine now and then for drips or a damp floor.

If you see water stains on the ceiling below the laundry, stop using the washer and book a visit. We'll find where the water is coming from and tell you whether it's the machine or the plumbing.

Builder-grade appliances reaching the same age

Townhouse communities were often fitted with the same builder package throughout, so appliances bought at the same time tend to wear out together. Common failures at that stage are refrigerator defrost problems, dishwasher drain pumps and dryer igniters or heating elements.

We'll tell you whether a repair makes sense for an older machine. When it doesn't, we say so before any work begins.

When an HOA or landlord is involved

In rented townhouses and apartments, the owner decides on repairs. Tenants should check with them first. If you're the owner, pass along your tenant's name and number; we'll schedule around them and bring the findings and the quote back to you.

Questions About Repairs in 20904

The questions that come up most often. Anything not covered here, ask us when you call, or add it to the booking form's notes field.

Have a different question?

Tell us what make it is and what's going wrong. A few things can be settled over the phone, and anything else gets looked at during the visit.

The FDA's White Oak campus has its own ZIP, but the neighborhoods around it on the Montgomery County side are largely in 20904. We cover those homes, not the federal campus itself.

Usually the vent. Townhouse dryers often vent through a long duct with several bends before it reaches the outdoors, and lint piles up in each bend. We check airflow first; if the vent itself needs cleaning, a vent specialist is the right call.

Repairs Across Silver Spring

This ZIP is part of our Silver Spring coverage in Montgomery County. When you book, add anything that affects getting in: where to park, a front desk that needs notice, or a tight stairway.

Condos & high-rises
Many buildings want a loading-dock slot, an elevator booking or a sign-in at the desk. Mention those rules at booking so the visit fits them.
Stacked laundry
Washer-dryer stacks in closets and hall nooks often have to come out of the space to be worked on. Measurements or a photo help us prepare.
Older houses
A new appliance in a house built decades ago can be let down by the outlet, gas line, drain or vent behind it. We test the supply as well as the machine.
Tenants & owners
A renter can book the visit. We report the fault and the quote to the owner or property manager, whose approval comes before any repair.
Humid summers & garages
Sticky summer air makes fridges sweat and front-loader gaskets smell, and a garage fridge can struggle in the heat. Some of that is upkeep, not a failed part.
A straight answer
If fixing an older unit makes little sense, you will hear that from us, along with which part gave out.

How a Repair Visit Works

01

Book the Visit

Call or use the form. Name the make and describe the fault; a model number, if handy, speeds up parts.

02

Find the Fault

At your place, the technician checks the appliance and whatever feeds it (power, water, drain, gas or venting) until the cause is clear.

03

Approve the Price

You get a plain explanation and a price for the repair. The work starts only if you say yes.

04

Fix and Check

The new part is fitted and the appliance is run through a cycle, so you can see it working.
